Wireless tether with 4G ????

Getting only low 3g speeds when tethering in 4G running , wireless tether pre12 , with Supersonic 3.29.651.5 ROM , and newer Netarchy kernel. Mobile network, disconnected while using 4g to tether. Anyone have any ideas what might be throttling me? This was in a full strength 4g location . (edited 11/11/10)

Has anyone been having success with wireless tether on 4G? I have been able to get wireless tether to work fine at 3G and wired tether is fine at 4G. But what I really need for work is Wireless tether with 4G as my work will not allow me to grant privelege on my laptop to my EVO except as a storage device. Instead they give me crappy sprint 3g wireless card (and will not pay for 4g) I would like to be able to use my 4g when I go out to the field for my connection but when using wireless tether it will only go 3g to my laptop. Any help ? thanks

Re: Wireless tether with 4G ????

Are you rooted? I was wondering the same thing and while searching on XDA and here, I've found "Only 3g tether is unlocked, so you have to use wirelesstether (it's in the market ***only for "Root Users"***) for 4g tethering. Also, if you get frequent drops change to channel 1 in the application. Hope this helps.

Re: Wireless tether with 4G ????

definitely rooted but tethering was only 3g speeds when tried with wireless tether. As I said , using USB wired , 4g is great on tether. I will try latest wireless tether to see if that makes a ifference. It has been a month or so since i updated versions

I was having issues w/ wifi tether when I included apps2sd, since there is now a working hotspot, I switched to that so I could add apps2sd.....then I found out hotspot does not work w/ 4g, so I cooked another version w/ wifi tether & no apps2d, 4g wifi tether was confirmed...

Re: Wireless tether with 4G ????

I find it easiest to tether via 4G by disabling 3g(uncheck mobile network), and use the free wireless tether.

If you have good 4g signal, this is the way to go imo.

I have 4g working with wireless tether. Although I was in a full strength 4g area, the link was no faster than 3 g. Tested speed on phone itself with the 4G and it was normal , but when tethering, the speedtests on laptop were seriously lower and no faster than 3g. It seems I read somewhere that wireless tether was designed for 2g and 3g speeds but nothing about 4G. Can someone do a speedtest when using wireless tether in 4g and see if they get same results? I have mobile network disconnected when using it in 4g mode and tried different channles, etc, no difference. As I said, when I tether via USB , this is not an issue , as everything works fine and my 4g speeds through tether are normal ( tested in same 4g area) .
I am using 2.05 pre 7 as the others do not seem to want to play nice with my rom. I don't believe this makes a difference from reading about the newer versions as they are mainly for compatibility with new models coming out, etc. If anyone has any ieas or can validate speed , please drop in a post. Thanks

Re: Wireless tether with 4G ????

I was in San Antonio, TX about a month ago for the weekend and connected just fine with 4g (did not turn off 3G) -- d/l was 5 megs and u/l was 1 meg speed -- using NetArchy's Burnt Rom and version pre-11 of wireless tether.

Only issue I saw, was the 4G connection seemed to time out after about 30 minutes and I had to close tether and restart, and reconnect - don't know if my laptop disconnect or 4G timed out - but I was very happy with the connection and speeds
