Having 4G issues - I think I am being bounced around 4G towers

Hi all, I am having issues @ home with my 4G.

When the phone is just sitting, it does the following every 30-40 seconds:

Scanning
Connecting to Sprint
Obtaining an IP address
Connected to Sprint

IP address jumps around big time

70.4.68.xx
108.111.97.xxx
184.199.107.xx
72.58.181.xx
108.111.217.xxx
173.100.209.xxx
68.244.103.xx
68.245.130.xx
108.121.158.xxx
173.124.143.xxx
174.146.18.xx

When I am near work, 4G has no problem staying solid and not dropping. If I keep the 4G connection alive, it won't drop either.

It's extremely annoying because I can't really use 4G at home and it kills the battery life if I forget to turn off 4G. Basically, this EVO 4G turned into a 4G-less device.

It's extremely annoying.

Any ideas what is causing it and how to fix?

I am not sure if 4G is fully in NY. I have tried several custom roms and I still don't get a signal all the time. I drops more than it is on 4G. does anybody else have a true solid lasting 4G signal in NY. I am in the metro area. Also the highest test I have gotten so far is 2.6 mbps. and I was getting that also when they was testing the NY area

Well I was in new york a few weeks ago and I was getting great 4g service. In the Bronx I was getting about 5mbps, in the Manhattan area I was averaging about the same but in the la guardia area I was getting 9 to 11mbps easily.

Re: Having 4G issues - I think I am being bounced around 4G towers

i am not talking about moving around.

with the phone stationary and a 4g tower across the street I get disconnected/reconnected over and over again.

At work, or anywhere else it holds 4g just fine.

I am wondering if I am being bounced around from 4g tower to 4g tower since I live in a densely populated area.

When I am connected, it is blazing fast (11mbit down, 1mbit up)

I get great 4g here in nyc, there are parts in midtown, financial district and canal that get choppy service but I do see sprint engineers working in some of the high risers installing the pods, I love seeing that

Re: Having 4G issues - I think I am being bounced around 4G towers

Everyone competes with everyone else for bandwidth. You may be sitting in your house and see 6 bars and then it drops to zilch. Same for same. Only so many can ride the bus at once. You are in NYC, I can imagine the demand fluxating by the second.

Then again, I have a weak signal in northern Ga. but it is rock steady unless they are playing a Deliverance rerun on cable.

Re: Having 4G issues - I think I am being bounced around 4G towers

I get very fast speeds of 7-10mbit on speedtest, i doubt it is a capacity issue.

I think there is a software issue where the phone sees 3 wimax towers all with similar signal profiles and just keeps bouncing around as the signals bounce around a bit.

here is my phone signal stats at the window facing the tower:

Rx Pwr: -44.07
Rx signal to noise ratio: 28.11
Rx FER: 95%
Tx Pwr:-22.13

I have a similar situation. But I have a vastly superior phone than the Evo. If your wondering... Its a Epic.but anyways, mines does pretty much the same, except mines drops constantly. Wiimax needs fixing.
