how do i save all my photos or videos to my sd card instead of my phone?

When you open the camera app go to settings and you can select it. I think it does it automatically(or is suppose to) when it realizes there is a sd card inserted though...

pics automatically go to the DCIM folder. I have never operated my EVO without the SD card so I do not know what happens in that state.

Either plug the card into you PC and check the attributes of the card. R-click on the card and uncheck re-only is checked. Or plug your phone into PC as Disk Only and do same.
