Background data

I have bee reading a lot of web sites on the EVO4g and a lot of them mention turning off BACKGROUND DATA to be able to improve battery life. If I turn this off, does it disable AUTOSYNC of ALL the programs that have it set up such as facebook, IMAP EMAIL, EXCHANGE, FRIENDSTREAM, etc?? All the articles say to turn off if you arent using google services but dont mention about other apps..

Thanks...

Re: Background data

Don't turn off Background Data, un check "Enable always on mobile data." which is located in settings/wireless networks/mobile network settings. This does not affect syncing of emails and facebook. It increases battery life for sure. I think the only thing it affects is the syncing of third party apps like tweetdeck. You get your notifications a little slower.

Re: Background data

I dont think I want to do that.. Enable always-on mobile data - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

looks like I wont get FACEBOOK or EXCHANGE or IMAP mail updates as well as the market wont find updates to the apps. I will HAVE to go into the APP for it to update..

Re: Background data

Honestly, I have not experienced that problem. Just sent myself a Gmail and it hit my phone instantly. And my facebook always updates at the intervals set. Why not just give it a shot and test it for yourself, it can't hurt to try. Just my $0.02.

Re: Background data

When I turned off background data I had alot of issues with my EVO not sure if it's related to the APPS I'm using but I prefer to have it on I think it turns off pretty much everything
