what do i have to do to get a replacement, is this a htc manufacter warranty or do i have to pay for sprint deductible?

Display an all-white pattern across the entire display for the same amount of time that the persistent image had been displayed on the screen. This works on PC LCD's so in theory it should work on evo lcd

I agree, and an easy easy to do it is to download some flashlight apps until you find one that doesn't turn the LED's on, but instead uses the screen on bright white as a flashlight. Some allow changing the colors too.

get the pixel test app to see if you have any dead on stuck pixels
