Re: Flash ruins close pictures, any fix..??
turn off the flash and use a flashlight. The flash is very...enthusiastic. It's best to just make your own lighting.

Assuming that you are using the stock camera app. Don't click the camera icon on the screen. this is for like a quick focus and shot. click anywhere that you want to on the screen instead, it will focus on that area and adjust the flash to that area as well.. You can watch the flash start off bright and then dim itself to the proper lighting.

Re: Flash ruins close pictures, any fix..??
Flash sucks in low light situations. You can set brightness to -3 and manually set ISO to 100. That will help to keep pictures from being horribly overexposed. Problem with flash photography with the EVO, is that the flash is extremely bright at first which usually blinds the person you are taking a photo of, and it takes a second or two to dim down, but the problem is that the shutter speeds are too low and usually you end up with a horribly overexposed photo, or one which has motion blur.
Either way, the camera should be capable of taking a picture in darkness by adjusting the shutter speed to compensate for the light. In short, I find the EVO's camera sucks (especially when using flash). All digital cameras have a sensor that measure ambient light, and adjusts, ISO, shutter speed, and aperture to take a properly exposed picture. It's sad that this super duper smart phone fails miserably at this basic digital camera principle when you induce flash into the equation. I was hoping when Froyo came they would do something about the slow shutter speeds on flash, but they did not.

Well the camera is far from garbage, or sucking, it's just in low light situations I wish there was a more effective way from keeping the glare from overflowing... In daylight, or even barely lit rooms the pictures come out awesome, just when it's dark they are kinda blurred out with light...
