Re: Apps that Collect and Share your IMEI
They do this solely for registration purposes. aCar is a perfect example. If you register and type in your purchase key, it will only work on your device. This prevents people from stealing your donation key and using it on their phone and also prevents you from giving your donate key to everyone you know. Games also use this often when you register as a user online. The game will know it is you in the event that you had to re install the app down the line.
It seems like everyone here is assuming that every permission used by an app is to f*ck people over. Chill out.

Re: Apps that Collect and Share your IMEI
He is righr some paid apps ask for this when you pay for app. One I paid for on ppcgeeks store did. Some sak for email address but that can be spoofed. Anyone that had TP2 and needed unlocker? The unlocker needed iemi.

Re: Apps that Collect and Share your IMEI
I am ok with paid/donate apps using it to id your device, but a lot of the free apps share it so that they can track your usage and or with advertisers to push ads to you.
Personally I would prefer to be anonymous, don't mind using something for free and having to see ads, that's fair.. -CC |
