AntiVirus protection, anyone..??

Does anyone use AntiVirus protection..?? I've heard it's not needed, but at the same time I'm pretty good at backdoor entrances to places I shouldn't be lol so I'm not convinced that it's not hackable... Anyways, I've been looking around and it doesn't seem like that many people are using AV Software, so I'm just trying to get an idea of who out there is really putting the fence up on their Evo's and trying to block more than just ad's...

Re: AntiVirus protection, anyone..??

At this point there really are not many viruses/exploits on it...similar to as said linux/mac...and it is not because mac and linux are more secure then windows...just windows is widely used so its profitable/efficient for hackers to target them...at the moment cell phones are still in their infancy and are booming out.

At the moment there really is no urgency..but give it a year, 2 ,3 and it will start becoming a norm.

I know it's not Windows, that's why I asked because I'm still learning Linux/Unix code and such... And hacking/virus implement the same general idea, except usually a virus is the initial threat, than hacking is followed once your firewalls and ip's are logged/exploited...

Heard of that, did some reading and seems it was between LookOut and Dr. Web's AntiVirus..

Not yet anyways, in time I'm sure there will be... It only took a short while of coding to develop a virus test file to infect Mac's so Google/Android I'm sure are the next targets since they're about to be the next biggest thing (if they haven't surpassed that already) in advertising alone lol..

Thanks for the input..

Re: AntiVirus protection, anyone..??

In all seriousness, it makes almost no sense for anyone to develop a virus for the android platform.
A)Most things you install are from the market and, as previously stated, google keeps a close watch for malicious activity.
B)The way typical users take advantage of their phone is general web browsing and communication. I can't think of anything that i have recently put on the internet that i didn't expect people to see. Also, if someone got a hold of my call history, they would be pretty bored.
C)Just because the platform is popular does not make it a target. While some people may create a virus just to mess with people, those will be few and far between, not to mention nipped in the bud quickly.

While you personally might handle important information on your phone, i sincerely hope that you wouldn't use an app you didn't trust completely to access your sensitive information. Keep in mind, also, that, even though YOU may deal with very important and confidential information on your phone, most people don't. To the general public, a phone is a phone. This is why malicious activity has been primarily focused on PC's. I cannot think of an easier platform to mess with than Windows Mobile and, to my knowledge, there was never any virus or hacking that permeated that ecosystem on a large scale.

There's being safe, then there's being paranoid. I am totally comfortable saying that i will never install any kind of antivirus software on my Android device and i believe that the fact that it exists is the ONLY reason people think that it is in any way necessary.
