Is there any reason for me not to update to 1.47?
I still have the original build and have not updated the phone at all. Is there any advantage for me not to update to the 1.47 version before I root, or does it matter. I'm new at all this so the simpler the better. Thanks.

If you update to 1.47, you'll have to downgrade back to your current version to root it. So, in short, don't do it.

Just root your current version and then install the rooted update of your choice.
