wireless tether 2.0.5 and OMJ Froyo 2.2

I've searched the forums and I can't seem to find what I'm doing wrong. I'm it's something simple and stupid.

I have OMJ's Froyo 2.2 et al installed on my EVO, I start up wireless tether and make my device discoverable.. I then link my laptop bluetooth and the device... but I must be missing some step as I can't use the mobile connection and tether.

feel free to flame me -- like I said I'm sure it's something stupid.
