I noticed that you won't receive a sound notification while on call if your phone is on vibrate. So maybe this is why some think it doesn't work

it works now.... it just use to completely not work.... the update helpped

Only issue I have is that I get the stock sms notification and the handcent one as well.. would be nice to only receive one..

Go into the stock messaging app, click menu>settings

Remove the Received Notification setting.
