EVO w/ Swype unrooted? Is it possible?

It was my understanding that we could only get Swype if we were rooted..... is there any version we can run on non rooted .3 Froyo?? I cant figure out why Verizon seems to have the exclusive on Swype, when I am sure people would gladly pay a few bucks per and make a lot more money just to have it...

Step by step instructions with pictures are provided in a thread on this forum. I followed it. You do not need to be rooted to use swype.
