2.2 Froyo Official Release... Advanced Task Killer is the app I'm using... And if this app doesn't work right in Froyo, what would you recommend..??
|
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
Id recommend not worrying about it too much...with android when it needs something it opens it, when it is done with it it shuts it back down.

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
hey bro, I have the same issue.....didn't happen with 2.1, but its friggin maniacal with Froyo. I tried with no task killer after the update, and i had very crappy battery life....
|
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
Same here. Apps are popping up like crazy. I also tried going with the no task killer like others have suggested but my battery was taking a pounding. I find I get better battery life when using ATK but thats just me.

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
oh man thats the one thing that makes me want to go back to 2.1 its driving me insane!!!

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
There's an application (paid since the light is toooo light) which was the best thing i've purchased to save my battery life and speed. You can all say that you don't need it and this and that, but what counts for me are results, and I get a great result with this app... seriosly, battery improved A LOT, I mean, REALLY A LOT.
The app is STARTUP AUDITOR... Try it... you will all be very surprised... |
I dont know about you guys but i did the update and it work for me. I do not use the atk but i do use my wifi when i have poor signal. I guess when running low of signal it take longer to sync and it waste the charge so maybe is the sync process.

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
ive actually killed apps and before i go off the screan see more open up, whatever the issue is i sure hope it gets fixed soon as i have yet to purchase a backup battery!
|
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
I don't know if its gonna get fixed because it was meant to be like that, froyo have much better management and blocked atk to work the same way. I have good battery using it the way it is, have ATK autokill using more battery because it's gonna start the program back up...
|
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
Ok Tickleme....im gonna try without a task killer for a couple days and see what happens..
|
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
I have them too but if it doesnt affect your battery why do you care? It's one thing if its running in the background and not using up any battery... another if its actually causing issues. And ATK on froyo is pointless...and it could be an issue with the app itself not being compatible with froyo yet.

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
hey guys also try juice defender and put it on your ignore list for your task killer it will help, also i am using task panel x which i love running on longhorn 2.2 froyo i can get my phone to last till 1130pm and off the charger since 6 15 am
|
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
I am doing fine on 2.2, I would check your programs and see what is eating your battery up. Chances are it is an app that is not 2.2 supported.
Check your battery usage and see if your phone is actually going into standby. Also I could have sworn people have gone over this time and again, but Android does not and should not use a task killer, this is not Windows Mobile. Memory is handled very different. In fact here is a great article on it: http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-b...-with-android/ |
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
When I get home im gonna post a screen of my battery.. even with sync ON, bloo updating my facebook notifications every 2 minutes and apps running in the background. I came off the charger at 7 am and im still at 90% 2 hours later. Doesnt affect me at all.

I am the same way, I use my phone for personal and work so I use it heavily. After a 8-5 day I get home with 60% battery and it lasts until 10pm when it still has about 30-40%. |
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
I do wish these apps wouldn't open up randomly. There doesn't seem to be any point in doing this. But, this phone still runs fantastic, so I'm not complaining.
For battery life tips, go to www.goodandevo.net I increased my battery life greatly by doing several of those tips. One of the most important tips for battery life is to turn off "always on mobile data". It's under menu > settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks. After your phone is in stand by for a few minutes, it turns off the 3g radio, and comes back on when you wake the phone up. But it won't affect your gmail notifications. Can't speak for exchange notifications. |
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
Damn, I'm shocked how good a battery some of you are getting..!?! I'll take mine off the charger @ 5am with 100%, brush my teeth, get dressed for work, and leave at 5:30 for work and my phone is already at like 93%... I'm gonna start charging my TP2 battery and bringing it with me to work cuz by noon my phone is just about at the 15% warning..
|
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
I haven't done the update to 2.2 yet because I am waiting on my new sd card from amazon to come.
I have been using Advanced Task Killer to kill everything ever few mins but I ask it to ignore qik, fring, and Push 2 talk so those things always are on. I'm not sure I am reading everyone's posts correctly... are you guys saying that when I update to froyo Advanced task killer wont work anymore and I wont be able to keep qik, fring and p2t open all the time? |

When you wake up in the morning unplug it from the charger and use it for a short while (1-2 mins). Plug it back into the charger and you will see how long it takes to charge back up. This is because once you phone reaches 100% the charging mechanism stops and your phone will continue to run off of its own juice. That drop to 93% means that is how much it has dropped between it finishing charging to the point which you look at it again. Try this method out and top off your batt before you leave in the morning. You should see different results. |

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
By saying android doesnt need a ATK why is it that people see apps using so much battery power. Through out my day i can have my phone start with like 200+M and by the end of the day and running my ATK on crazy im at 145m??? That really doesnt make sense to say you dont need an atk.

The only reason to use ATK is to kill a process that is hung or won't go away so you can uninstall an app. Outside of that ATK is an application that is for previous WinMo users that feel the need to kill apps. Android handles memory in a completely different way, thus killing something just makes it pop back up. Also if you have 2mb of free RAM left Android will perform the same as if it had 200mb, that is how the OS handles memory, a lot more efficent than WinMo. Because you were a WinMo user you have a placebo effect, assuming memory is lower therefore performance is less, when that is not the case here. If anything ATK can make your battery life less becuase you keep killing apps and they keep restarting. I have never used ATK, not even once, and I have never had issues with battery life. The things that drain your battery are widgets (FriendStream), using GPS, and normal usage. Now again I am a heavy user with texting, emails and web usage and my phone easily lasts all day. The funny thing here is that all the users that are using ATK have horrible battery life, hmmmm, no one put two and two together? Now remember if you use your phone constantly and it dies before noon, don't be surprised, no amount of power saving can save you. This is what happens when you stream Pandora and use Google Maps all morning... |
The auditor app seem to help out a lot. Thanks!

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
just my $.02.
I was getting horrible battery life. off the charger at 6am and by 6pm the phone was almost completely dead. I installed ATK and set it to autokill everything when the screen turns off. I now have double the battery life that I used too. You can say that it doesn't work or isn't needed, but in my experience (which is very little with Android) it works great and saves battery life. |

yea wut he^ said. Im very familiar wit android an it runs a lot of useless crap that used to kill my battery..installed ATK an now it doesnt simple as that. "but a task manager is not needed android knows wut its doing"...it sure does, its killing my battery. qik, amazonmp3, sprint nav, news. etc...cmon really? no one can justify those constantly running |
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
hence why u use startup auditor and not a task killer that leaves artifacts... they wont start if they cant start so then u have the free memory

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
This article was tweeted by Cyanogen who is responsible for for creating an Android rom from scratch for several devices. I tend to believe him, the guy writing the article, and Google themselves.
http://thedroidguy.blogspot.com/2010...r-hurting.html That being said, there are some poorly written apps out there that can keep your phone from sleeping. Facebook 1.3 had a bug that caused this and they fixed it in 1.3.1. If you are getting less than 12 hours of battery life on average usage, you should look into what apps are causing partial wake time. |
Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
If you are rooted and install custom ROMS, battery life has a lot to do with which ROM you are on and how it is configured. I was on Fresh 1.0.1 on 2.1 and I received daily 12hrs usage. I had a task killer, but seldom used it. I assumed it was doing the job. I became worried when I began to update to the Froyo ROMS... I tried some of the earlier ones (before the official update) and my battery life was a maximum 6 hrs with almost no use. I quickly went back to 2.1. Then when Fresh came out with his 2.2 I had already tried like three other 2.2 ROMS and was convinced that I wouldn't like the battery life... and it is true that the task killers don't work in 2.2. I am running Fresh's Froyo ROM... I don't have a task killer. Yesterday I took it off charge at 9am and at midnight I had about 30%. I used my phone off and on all day. Today, I have the same results. It is 3:18pm and I am at 43% after 7h 29m of use. It is taking a lot longer to drain and I am convinced now it is in the ROM you choose.

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
Ok...i tried with no task killer an my phone is still just as snappy an not really a degredation of battery performance....will keep posting any noticed changes....oh...completely stock 2.2 btw..

Re: When I kill app's, minutes later several are opened again..??
ATK works wonders for me. The whole "it launches what's needed and shuts down" line is a bunch of crap. i can understand mail and msg starting, but not using sprint nav or google maps in days is no excuse for it needing to start on it's own and shutting off. i use ATK and press kill apps and i have an other list, press kill and an other list pops up. it takes 3-4 times of selecting kill for others to pop up, but minutes later auto kill will show 16 apps killed. i requested for a "keep them killed till i launch them" app and was told that is how android works. i hate this sh*t.
