Question Android Backup on Google Server for Evo?

i have seen in a couple of custom Roms (and nexus one) a backup service called Google Backup which stores your wifi, apps settings, etc. to google's server. it ususally shows up in the initial setup of an ASOP based rom...

I wonder why is it not on our EVOs? and how to get it?

i have searched, but nothing comes up in google about it...
in ASOP rom is under settings->privacy, but that does not exists on my evo (using rooted stock rom right now)...
anyone have an answer to this?

Re: Android Backup on Google Server for Evo?

Its an option in Android 2.2 but not 2.1..I honestly can't remember if it was in the 2.2 sense rom that was leaked but if its not then HTC must of taken it out.

Re: Android Backup on Google Server for Evo?

I will never trust a cloud backup. Seriously can't get over the idea that anyone could in theory get in there. Yes, it may be a bit paranoid, but backing up to the 32Gb card seems perfectly reasonable and logical.

Re: Android Backup on Google Server for Evo?

I guess my question arrives because i concluded that HTC has done away with a lot of built-in features in android (hence the one above, the standard Android keyboard, etc)...not liking it, I hope someone can get a %100 froyo rom for the Evo (the one I tried has not been updated yet, and its still have no camera working, but it runs so fast!)...all the HTC stuff (people, text messaging, etc) takes a toll on the overall speed of the phone...anyone knows of such ROM would be nice...Yes know about the post with all the ROMs listed in this forum, 36 and counting...

What you are looking for is the Cyanogen ROM. Everything in it was built from the ground up using just the Open Source code directly from Google. The apps and settings backup does work on it along with the built-in wifi and usb tether. What does not work is 4G, HDMI, and FM radio. I anticipate HDMI being included very soon, but 4G is what is holding most people back. There are nightly builds with changes being posted every day. It is awesome as long as you are ok with no 4G.

edit: The backup doesn't actually backup the data associated with your apps. So, you will have to reset them each time you factory reset or wipe and flash. Things like login settings or high scores will not be saved. The other things backed up are things like your ringtone, wallpaper, wifi networks.

i was aware of this rom, but due to the missing features, which i use very much, i have not gone that route...the closes i have found that works very well is hero_froyo v 1.0 which still needs to fix about the same things as CM6...I'll just have to wait...but thanks for the input.
