I'm thinking sprint is going to hold off releasing anything until free tethering can be patched up

Yet another rumor.

Besides, Sprint makes the ultimate decision to release official 2.2, not HTC. Sprint is signing up enough new accounts to not have to release 2.2 for the Evo for a while. My guess is we'll never see it since GB will be taking over the rumor mills as we get closer to Christmas, the holiday of which HTC said 2.2 will be ready prior to.

Has Sprint released OS upgrades for any OS platform in timely manner ever? Even when they were bleeding customers?

I bet we see it by the end of August. Here's hoping at least.

Im not holding my breath lol. 6.5 for windows took way to long. 2.2 will be out shined by 3.0. I wonder if 3.0 will have wireless teather?

I have to agree wit you, I too believe bout time we get 2.2 we'll still be behind a version or 3, sprint is jus horrible with updates. other prime examples being the Hero and Especially the Moment...Im personally jus waiting for one of the devs to make a more stable 2.2, im not waiting on sprint. :angry7:

Ditto. I'm just gonna wait for calkulin to work out some issues on his froyo port from the incredible.

Yeah I have no faith in Sprint after how we were tortured wit the Hero waiting for 2.1. Just waiting for Fresh with 2.2. VZW Droids get there updates soon so hopefully the Incredible update can be converted for the Evo like the Eris was for the Hero

Didn't want to create a new thread, but a friend of mine at corporate, says group will be tested on 50000 evos tomorrow and if all goes well, then the rest will follow.

Re: Htc froyo updates!

Just a friendly reminder...
Don't accept any OTA if you want to keep root access.
I think once this OTA does hit, a bunch of people who are rooted will accept the new OTA because it's FROYO, then they will unroot their phone.
Then 12-24hours later the great developers we have will have a rooted version of the OTA but for 90% it will already be too late.

ycats 07-29-2010 11:59 AM

Re: Htc froyo updates!

I guess they/we could install the OTA Froyo, then sometime soon someone will be able to crack it.

Re: Htc froyo updates!

If you want to test drive Froyo I strongly suggest checking out CyanogenMod at XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596). His RC1 is super speedy. It has a few things that aren't working but the ROM has been built from the ground up. 4G, HDMI and FM Radio aren't working and it does not contain HTC Sense and His development team (Team Douche) is working on fixing those items not working.

I'm personally getting benchmarks that are 2-3 times Stock EVO with 8-10 hours of battery life depending on use.

Re: Htc froyo updates!

I want some froyo...bad.....wish Sprint would give it to use now. It appears that they wait until things are tested and verified but we saw with the last update that they didn't test enough. Too many problems...

Wish there was an elite beta tester group where we could sign up and get updates early. or is there one and no one invited me???

lol

August 5th is the release date. I saw a post in Android forums with an email from HTC stating that.

IF Sprint was a snake, and the evo users were horny perverts, well if you could hold a snake's head straight you'd prob f&ck it to get you some froyo venom! hahahaha

the update you need to worry about probably never getting is gingerbread. now thats never going to come to the evo

Nygel 07-29-2010 03:05 PM

Re: Htc froyo updates!

I personally think that the EVO, being the the design, specs and type of handset it is will be Supreme for a long time and I believe Sprint as a company knows that. so Sprint will try to spoon feed us as little as the can without sacrifing customer count, when the sign up rate slows or stop then they will push all they can. The only other thing that can push Sprint off there high horse now is that if HTC makes another device that is 4g for another carrier that has double the processor speeds and be able to overclock 40 to 60 more safely with no adverse effects. If that ever happens watch out. But the new law that was passed I guarantee Sprint will fight tooth and nail with customers on that because all you have to do is pay $150.00 to $200.00 and not buy another phone, to switch carriers. I hear large carriers silent agreements growing!!!

Straight from Sprint's mouth with proof. They wouldn't put this out there unless the update was ready for release. It says the PR will be in the morning. Maybe we'll see a leak tonight...:D <crossedfingers>

so this means it will be like other OTAs and will end up getting re-unrooted

Rager02 07-29-2010 03:37 PM

Only question is how fast will the version for rooted users take?

It's worth doing for those that use unrevoked, nut for those of use that are dully rooted I don't think it is. It will bring way more stability for our chefs though!

For once Sprint got their act together? Well, I'm glad I was wrong about seeing 2.2 so soon. Don't think anybody expected it to be ready starting 8/2.

Please don't let this be some sick joke.

I just wonder how long it will take for a rooted version. I'm not making the same mistake twice I will wait this time.

Wow, didn't you read the thread about rooting?

What if Sprint decides to block the root again, just like how they did on the latest OTA? Now another person will have to find a way to root it again.

If you are Rooted, do NOT accept the OTA. Just wait for a chef to have a rooted version out.

But people don't listen, I bet many of you will accept it just cause its froyo.

The chances of any of the current rooting methods working on ths 2.2 upgrade are very very very small. I can't stress very or small enough.

It was like with the sprint hero. When the 2.1 upgrade came out, it wasn't until after the evo was rooted that the 2.1 upgrade for the hero was rooted. Then, sprint released a "fix" that broke that root exploit.

Eventually, the 2.2 upgrade will get rooted, but this could take months.

Its is a biggie I'm sure HTC patched the flash flaw that was used to root after the second OTA. You can be the Ginnie pig let us know if you still have root after you flash. I would wager that you don't and it could take weeks to find root again. If thats a chance your willing to take go for it. I will wait a couple extra hours for the geniuses to give us the go ahead. I just hope they have it rooted for the weekend thats all I can ask.

We already know it has a different version of flash so what do you think the chances are of it having the same flaw? 0 zero .. Nada.. zilch....
