Sad that he only has 6 thanks. I also 5-Star'd this thread to help keep it alive for those who haven't seen it yet.

Thanks for the heads up homes.

Someone beat you to it a long time ago. I won't say this is old news, but there is a pretty big thread on this already...aaand its on the first page of the Forums. How you missed it is beyond me. Actually, I'm pretty sure you saw it and neglected it.

Totally not going to break root though I learned 2.2 is awesome after using it for a few days.

give it a week and cyanogen, damage and fresh should be releasing something.

anyone know if there is a new radio and prl included in the update?

*sits and waits* for the post on 7/30 at 12:01 AM saying the update is not here, Dan Hesse is a lying scumbag.

So, I'm going to do my best to make it abundantly clear.

IF YOU DO THE FROYO OTA, YOU WILL LOSE ROOT ACCESS FOREVER!

Because it hasn't been released/leaked yet, there is no way of telling how hard it will be to crack it. They may be able to bypass whatever Sprint/HTC does and gain root access again, but it's not guaranteed.

Your best bet, if you want to keep root access is to wait. Usually a day or two after the update, the devs release a rooted version of the same rom. Last OTA took about 16hrs to be released as a rooted version. This one won't take long either.
If you decide to do the OTA because it's such an "amazing opportunity to run the Official FROYO release and I couldn't help myself," don't go crying in the rooting thread later that you want to use Wifi tethering and can't.

On that note, this is still great news. Thanks OP. I look forward to running the rooted version of this sometime next week.

i agree with this one..

wait and see what happens while others and devs take a look at it... knowing Sprint theres bound to be something in there to try to block things they know you guys have already done - ie root, etc..

otherwise you may end up as the posts were bound to see - " help! the OTA broke my phone" - just like everyone rushing to do the first 2 OTAs

If you don't say it, then it I can pretend there's not chance of it happening. BE POSITIVE OR i'LL CRY!

This is awesome, I knew sprint wasn't going let us down. Yeah I know sprint and all other carriers are slow as hell when it comes to updates but android is the new hottie and with all the competition no one can afford to wait til forever to release froyo.

Holy Crap!

Well it looks like that $10 fee might be for timely upgrades too! Who would have thought that Sprint would be the first phone after Google's own.

lol, why does everyone hate Unrevoked3? (Beside the seeming poor support)

Everything works as it should, I can flash ROMs (Yes, Fresh), I can back up Roms and Restore them, what's the prob? Is there beef between XDA and Shadowmite? Or is this a holdover from the WinMo (XDA) versus Palm (Shadowmite) days? jeeeeez, lol

Anywho, thanks OP, can't WAIT till it's rooted! I think I'll actually do the XDA version to see what all the fuss is about.

That's what I would like to know, NONE of these threads were on the first page when I submitted this. Even the suggestion threads didn't display while naming the thread.

HTC Evo 4G Getting Android 2.2 FroYo on August 3
Today, 6:48 PM by Philip Berne

Sprint has announced that its first WiMAX handset, the HTC Evo 4G, will also be the first carrier offering to push Android 2.2, or FroYo, to owners. Starting next Tuesday, August 3, Evo 4G owners will begin to receive the over-the-air update. Android 2.2 offers numerous performance improvements, including improved Web browsinng with Flash 10.1 support. The update will also let users voice dial over Bluetooth and install certain applications on the phone's external memory, instead of using the smaller internal memory storage. Sprint also says users can update manually by navigating to the Settings > System Updates menu on their devices.

I realize that I wasn't the first person to post this topic, what I don't understand is when my view of the first page of threads were being displayed I skimmed through them and none of the Froyo announcements were being shown at that moment of time. Then when you go to name the title of your new thread it shows threads that have similar content, again missing the obvious title names. So I created a thread accordingly. I was in meetings all afternoon and off the grid, and when Engagdet updated the article the time stamp changed to 7:35PM. I really thought it just came out and that I was first to the punch.

Hey mods, have you ever heard of this or experienced anything like this before, I know that I'm crazy but I didn't think I was delusional!

My rock is getting cramped under here :/
