Re: Does this mean Froyo is Close for the EVO?
Check this out guys, Desire getting Froyo.... Tomorrow!?
A 4G EVO version can't be far off! I have one question though, any old school Android users know if upgrading will entail a hard-reset? Because my WinMo 6.1 to 6.5 did and that's just MEH!

I don't know, tilt2 finally got sense 2.5 yesterday. I don't think these
companies care. I wouldn't be surprised if a phone with the new duel core scorpion processor drops before we 2.2....officially that is. There is a good number of is that already have 2.2 and are eagerly awaiting gingerbread. To companies, a new OS usually means about 6 months of development before they ipdate a device (unless you are a N1 owner). Thankfully with communities like us, it means we wait only about 2. Sheesh some of you guys might need to relax. Yes sprint is slow when it comes to updates but what carrier isn't? Also the evo has only been out for a whopping 7.5 weeks, I haven't even gotten my rebates back yet. Besides there is a htc incredible froyo rom that just got leaked so whos to say that there isn't a evo one around the corner. Sprint as well as other carriers always drop the ball when it comes to updates but times are hard, the compitition is getting hungrier and hungrier so I wont be surprised if it comes out by the end of summer.

Re: Does this mean Froyo is Close for the EVO?
Surprisingly Motorola/ATT seems to be on the ball with 2.2.
I'm not expecting 2.2 for Evo at all. Even if official OTA 2.2 is released in the next 5 months, enthusiasts would be 1) Already on non-official 2.2 and better/cleaner ROM, 2) Moved on to other devices. Average Joes will go on merrily and ignorantly enjoying 2.1 until they qualify for an upgrade. Just chalk it up to cell carriers continuing the tradition of de-prioritizing OS upgrades and focusing on upcoming phones. Sprint got you for two years, else termination fee, else re-up contract with new device. Enthusiasts, who make the most stink about OS upgrades and other issues/wants, make up a small minority. If HTC/Sprint 2.2 is gold next month, great! Early Christmas then! Else I'll hold out for Evo2 with GB in 2011. |
