Re: New phone

When I switched from tp2 to evo I was worried I would get lost in all the diffrences. It wont take you much time to figure things out just keep asking questions and dont forget to search. The 5 sticky links above are very helpful.

Also there are no cab files now they are called APK's and APP's. Contacts, you cant use the same pim to restore contacts. You will have to restore them with google sync or get the store to transfer contacts. Once you get your contacts, go into contacts hit menu and hit export contacts. This will automaticly save your contacts to your sd card and you can restore them at anytime with android phones. Swype, I found it easier to go to their website and sign up for there beta release. They dont have a real release right now just the beta. Anyway when you go to there site and sign up they will then send you and email. You go to there site from the email using your phone and swype will automaticly recognize your phone and download the proper keyboard. Once installed you can click on you text impute area and select swype as your defult keyboard then in a message you can go to menu, settings and adjust the settings.

Alot of this was put together really fast there are far better more detailed directions if you search.

Oh one more thing. If you root your phone and I recomned that you do get Titatnium backup from the market. It backs up all apps on your phone plus there current data. So if you get another phone or if you have to reset the phone you can easily restore things. Lastly lol when I was rooting my phone i couldnt get the command promt to work with my computer so I downloaded an app called terminal emulator and used it instead. It was a pain entering comands on the phone but it worked so much easier for me.

Hmm just keep thinking of things here. Dont be alarmed when you connect your phone to your PC. Android dont link the same way as windows and you wont be able to view the phone storage you will only be able to view the SD card storage. Very gay google but hey this phone is awesome and I am loving the finger friendly no stylus needed android.

I didnt want to look for a keyboard. I gave the stock keyboard 2 full weeks and then went looking for swype. The stock keyboard had my head hurting from all the stress it was causing with all the mistakes I kept needing to fix. Just another opinion since you guys wanted to honor the stock keyboad.

seriously these fulls must have tiny fingers. I would fly on my tp2, people would tell me to stop typing so they could keep up. My Evo pff I type so slow and swype is helping alot but man a hardware keyboard is where it is at. However I am not sure Ill ever go back this phone is so thin and nice to me a hardware keyboard might be a thing of the past for me.

They need a keyboad that predicts words based on what you are typing.. heard the inventor of T9/Swype might be working on something like this.

Re: New phone

A lot of people are liking the Droid X keyboard...since it's multi touch and the Evo default is not. I personally think it looks better than the stock Evo keyboard...but thats just me.
