Yes you can use swype however its not a cab its a .apk file. Stock is currently 2.1 but there its a fully working 2.2 coming any day now. As for recommended apps there are tons off topics which cover that.

Re: New phone

I know everyone would say this but I want to help you out...
if you up one level to the HTC Evo 4G level in this forum there will be a search button. Do a quick search for Swpe and you are gauranteed to find it. I believe it is also in the Android --> Apps & Games section.

Once you get the .apk on your device tap on the Menu button. Go to Settings --> Applications and check-off the Unknown Sources button. You will now be able to install Swype.

You will probably also be needing a File Explorer app. You can try ES File Explorer or Astro. Good luck with your Evo bro and dont forget to search. Otherwise, you will quickly get flamed in these forums...

I wouldn't worry to much about swype right off the bat. Try the stock keyboard. With all of the corrections that it does for you, I find myself typing way faster than I did with the tp2 slide out keyboard.

yeah, I thought I'd need swype the instant I got this phone, but I've been satisfied enough with the keyboard to never go looking for it.
