You could have bad 3g if you root your phone!!!

I'm fully rooted and as far as I know, my 3G is working fine. Once I get answers to the above questions I'll know if I should care about this problem or not. For all I know my 3G isn't working properly, but it's all I've ever known so it seems normal to me.

At the same time, I am not sure that just because there is a newer pri that the newer one will mean better 3G...

I work very close to a sprint tower in central florida and used to have a 2 mb down and 600 kb up with the hero and the evo, now I have in the same spot 1 mb down and 100 kb up but when I am driving I am getting only 500 kb down and 100 up most of my town.

3G speeds were cut in half (1mbs-->.5mbs) after moving from 1.4 to 1.3 with stock rooted rom. Tested in same location, same test servers. Switching on EVRC-B brings the speed back up to where it was before the PRI downgrade... I'm lost on this one, hah.

Good discussion on this at xda... basically the majority agree that Root with nand unlock is changing the PRI to an older version and many people have seen their speeds decrease by as much as 50% by doing doing this. The max download I can get after rooting has only been ~70-80 kbs. I would sugest NOT to do a full root if you use your 3g a lot until this issue is resolved! As of right now there is no way to revert back to the newer PRI versions that ship with stock...

One thing I noticed that you guys may want to try...

First off, my phone is rooted and running a custom ROM with the older pri.

I noticed that I get significantly faster 3G speeds when I have 4G enabled. I will be in an area that doesn't even have 4G, turn my 4G on, do a speed test, and get twice as fast data speeds as when I have 4G turned off.

So if you have "bad" 3G, you may want to try that.
