Yea Its hard to explain why that was happening. I am running unrevoked1 and never did any ota's. i have my brothers evo set up the same as mine and his *2 shortcuts still work as well. It's really odd, but when I go into the advanced menu and "enable" evrc-b the codes are broken. When i "disable" it, they come back...I tried it like 5 times now and it happens every time. Got me.....????

On rooted sprint rom; enabling doubles 3G speed from .5mbs to 1mbs with 1.31 PRI. *2 and other shortcuts work without issue. Switch it off and I'm back down to .5mbs... interesting.

Very interesting.....my speeds stay the same and my * shortcuts break.i'm on 1.40 pri.

Just to clarify, do you change the following

under advanced menu:

1.enable evrc-b
2.change home orig from evrc to evrc-b
3.change roam orig from 13k voice to evrc-b????

Re: EVRC-B in advanced settings triples my 3G speeds.. why / consequences?

Here's what I found: I use iHeartRadio and it worked before I enabled EVRC-B but broke after. I disabled it and it still would not work. I enabled it again and it still would not work. All other data apps work fine my speed increases but no go with iHeartRadio. I did a hard reset and tried iHeartRadio again and it worked. I checked to make sure EVRC-B was still enabled and it was. After I exited the menu iHeartRadio was broke again. I disabled EVRC-B tried and failed again. Enabled it again still a fail. Hard Reset and it worked again. It seems that just by doing ##data# and even choosing view will break that app and uninstalling and reinstalling will not fix it. Only a hard reset. That is the only application I notice having a problem though. Wierd.

I wouldn't recommend changing the roaming origin. It's set to Voice 13K for a reason: other carriers' towers may or may not support EVRC(-B).

Ahh, so when calling sprint via * codes(*2 *3 etc) i could have been roaming without even being aware of it. Hmm that makes sense.

Now I guess this is the last question i have. Let's say I change home orig and roam to evrc-b BUT i leave evrc-b DISABLED does that mean that even though I have set both to evrc-b it doesn't matter because I have evrc-b disabled? I think this may be the case because even though I changed home orig and roam to evrc-b i left evrc-b disabled originally. It wasn't until I actually enabled evrc-b like 10 days later that it broke the * dialing shortcuts.

I actually wouldn't care about the dialing shortcuts but i would love to see data speed increases. I wonder why mine are not affected.

I wonder if everyone who changed home orig and roam orig to evrc-b also enabled evrc-b under the same menu.

on edit: on went back in and only changed home orig to evrc-b, i changed roam back to 13k. i then enabled evrc-b......*2 broken....so i went back in disabled evrc-b, left home orig evrc-b and left roam 13k so this proves that simply enabling evrc-b will break my * dialing shortcuts. Not sure why, but it does it every time.

I actually wonder why others' speed were affected, since EVRC-B deals with how voice streams are split into frames for transmission via 1xRTT. It has nothing to do with either 3G or data.

But you never know with these things. This reminds me of the Touch Pro topic last year that recommended experimenting with the radio's GAIN and BIAS settings, which could be set anywhere from 0 to 65536. Some reported that zero gave better reception, some said one, some said low numbers, some said defaults (which were slightly different for everyone), some said high numbers, some warned about the radio overheating, some reported decreased battery life...and still others said the setting only affected the signal bar display and nothing else. In the end, we never found out what variable the setting was actually changing.

It's funny how XDA and this site are full of developers who know everything about Android and WM, but when it comes to the CDMA side of things, no one understands 95% of the available settings. I wonder where the engineers who designed, built, and maintain the CDMA networks - all ten of them - are hiding.

Re: EVRC-B in advanced settings triples my 3G speeds.. why / consequences?

So, I tried to get an airave to work at my house yesterday with our 2 htc EVO's, and my sons Samsung slider; his phone connects fine, but our 2 evo's will NOT connect; we can receive calls fine, but cant make them..

Both of our EVO's are set on full EVRC-B, which seems to give the best phone call sound; is it possible that since our EVO's are both set on evrc-b and cannot make any outgoing calls, that switching back to the default evrc-c would make the airave work for us?

I've talked to all sorts of people at Sprint support, and none of them have brought this up as a possible fix

thanks so much!

you need to call sprint and ask for your MSL number and they will give it to you, then you can enter edit mode on the epst screen.
