EVRC-B in advanced settings triples my 3G speeds.. why / consequences?

Okay well more than tripled in my "bad reception area". Before, I would get .15 download at my house. After... .71. Is this the case for anyone else? Does anyone know why this might be happening? Does anyone know what the downsides to using EVRC-B might be?

Edit (clear instructions)
Here's what I did:
dial ##DATA#
edit mode
MSL
Advanced
EVRC-B
Changed from "disabled" to "enabled"
menu "COMMIT MODIFICATIONS"
rebooted

can someone verify the legitimacy of this? I'm not sure why a speech codec would improve your data rates. If anything this would slow the delay of voice calls because it increases the sampling rate of the audio. It should improve the quality of your voice over the call though.

Not a placebo, just tested in 3 places changing from EVRC to EVRC-B and every time it at least doubled my speed... It may have impacted my battery, not sure...

Re: EVRC-B in advanced settings triples my 3G speeds.. why / consequences?

it could be something related to the amount of battery power used in relationship to EVRC-B setting. The increased battery power needed could increase the power distributed for the data function. Again, this is all speculation, because a change in audio codec shouldn't affect data speeds.

I can't imagine someone else didn't find this first and didn't tell us about it because it messed something else up... does your 4G still work with it enabled (my 4G broke a while ago)

The link you posted, yes, deals with changing it to EVRC-B. but, going into ##DATA# and then to Advanced, you actually enable it... It is in default disable.

Lets try this and see if others can duplicate this
