Don't think that is a fair comparison. Sprint definitely has to share some of the blame for the supply shortage. How can they market a phone so hard and not have enough to cover a decent supply stream? Your comparison is more justified if someone was mad at Best Buy for not having any in stock.

Sprint isn't losing 500 on each 1 that's sold.

It's good business to get as many of these into our hands as possible.

It's not like you can use SERO or any plan thats even remotely "cheap" with this phone.

It is in the best interest of Spint to get as many of us paying monthly bills as possible.

Re: Any idea when Sprint will have EVO's in stock?

I was told today by a rep at best buy they have 400+ white ones in stock at their warehouses. Even though I've been trying to get one for weeks now [waiting in the morning at the sprint store only to have them accept the first 5 people that were line -or waiting in line again to find out their not getting any more for a week or so] I figured I'll just keep holding out for the black one.

But if anyone is interested, best buy has white ones in stock and they ship to your house, they don't sell it at the store.

The website says they are no longer available. They were available earlier but seem to be sold out again

You mean the same way Verizon marketed the Incredible and had shortage issues as well??? Get a clue... HTC simply sucks at keeping these phones in stock. Unless sprint has some magical unicorn they keep in their warehouse that can produce these phones out of thin air what do you expect them to do??

Actually it's not HTC...blame the manf of the parts...they are the ones that are having hardware shortages....It's all over the net. Samsung is one of them....Demand is high still...so we just have to be patient...I guess.

SPRINT isn't to blame for phone shortages....They don't make the phone when u people gonna learn this....These stores get paid to carry company's products, so if it's a shortage it's not the store fault it's the maker

As a company, Sprint does not seem to be too smart. They had a real opportunity to penetrate the market and are blowing it!! When you finally have a product that the people want, you should make it available to them!!!!

Apple is stumbling and here is the chance for Sprint to move up the ladder. Besides selling more phones, we benefit from Sprint's success. The more phones sold(and delivered) the more pressure to expend 4G!

I fear a rehash of OS2. An operating system that was hands-down superior to Windows in it's day and IBM marketed it like skim-milk. We were begging for them to spend 50cents to advertize it, knowinjg that if it failed to penetrate the market, we would be sitting on a white elephant. The EVO is selling itself but now Sprint has to deliver.

The problem is it isnt sprint its HTC. they are using a third party Samsung( a competitor at that) who is also coming out with their own smartphones that use a screen thats 4-5 inchs so samsung is trying to keep with us the demands. the reason Iphones dont fall short like this is that its apple that manufacturers the whole product including the screen so they have less problems

I was on EVP and was told they were on back order there as well. Ohh well, now that they are being shipped with 2.2 I do not know if I even want one. 8/31 is when Sprint restocks the EVO, or so I was told by a CSR over the phone.

Bet you 5 bucks when you come in to the store on 8/31 they will be like "Sorry we ran out of EVOs..but we just got this Epic 4G in stock today! look..its shiny!"

Re: Any idea when Sprint will have EVO's in stock?

I received tracking information that mine was shipping on 8/20. It looks like they are coming back in stock at the Sprint Warehouse. The odd thing is the warehouse is located in Louisville KY. Believe it or not, they ship 2nd day air to an address also in Louisville. Too bad I couldn't just go and pick it up. I have to wait for UPS to play with the box for two days before dropping it off.

It's definitely been crazy. For me, nearly every radioshack, sprint store, best buy, and even sam's club is sold out. I happen to get lucky because there was a new best buy mobile store that opened up in the mall and I got a guy from another store to check the stock. They literally had 30 of them in the store at launch, and I finally got ahold of one!

Now be mindful, that I was also on a waiting list at radioshack for like 2 weeks and only one store just got back to me a day or two ago lol. SMH!

Believe it or not Wal-Mart has the EVO!!. Only 2 out of 7 Wal-marts in this area carry sprint phones and out of the 2 only 1 had the evo on display took me a couple days of calling to check when they would get another shipment in but I bought 2 from them, 1 for me and 1 for the Wifey.... and yes they do instant rebates so its straight up 199 plus tax...

I never wouldve thought that walmart would have the latest and greatest cell phones but they do now and by what the lady told me they all have dedicated portions of the electronics dept just for wireless now and are moving them to the front of the store im guessing to try and increase consumer awareness of what they have to offer....lol so for once in my life ill give a thumbs up to wally world...lol

Sprint is actually discontinuing the Evos, due to their decision to go to LTE instead... The only Wimax phone that will be available is the Samsung Epic on 8/31. No more Wimax phones after that... the next 4G phone will be a LTE device sometime 1st quarter of next year.

:D haha kidding. Had to. The If you're in Chattanooga, if you feel like driving down a couple hours to Atlanta - a few of the Best Buys here have them!

-might want to call first to make sure before making the drive of course! lol

No one is gonna fall for that for 2 reasons...
1) Sprint said they'd deploy both..and they have the spectrum to do so
2) Sprint won't be able to go LTE till at least 2011-2012.. mostly due to the fact that the only LTE they can do is TD-LTE...

I really think this "out of stock" thing is a marketing strategy Sprint is using to get people to get the EVO. The more you cannot get something, the more you want it; and the harder it is for you to finally find one, the easier it is for you to overlook things (i.e. the required 10.00).

Come on... is it really THAT hard for sprint to have this phone in stock for more than a week?

Just my 2 cents.

It is the dumbest marketing strategy ever made then..remember they are not making money on sales..they make money on contracts..aside from the $10 fee they dont care if you get an EVO or a simple flip phone...as long as you sign that contract.

That is why when a carrier is happy that things are being sold out..thats just a front..why? because they are loosing millions of dollars just by not having it in stock.

The fact that they don't make money on sales is a very good point. However, you have to understand that the sale and the contract go hand in hand. People don't join sprint because they are excited about signing a contract, they want a phone. The more excited and anxious people are about a phone, the more likely they would sign a contract.

Sprint's ads about the evo is more abotu the phone than it is about their contract, because they know if people want the phone enough they would care very little about the contract. I would not have signed a new contract with Sprint just because I like their service, I signed a new contract with them because I wanted the Evo, and even though I am paying twice of what I had, I still renewed my contract because I wanted the phone.

If indeed it is a strategy from sprint, then I think it is a pretty good one and it is working for them.

Lets look at it this way though, Verizon has the Droid X, Droid 2, AT&T has the iphone and the Captivate..and T-Mobile has the Vibrant...no matter how you slice the dice if they can't keep the EVO is stock and people don't care about the service provider..they'd go get another flagship phone...

I find it hard to believe that anyone would wait 2 months of no stock and being denied to get an EVO unless they are after the service...and sprint advertises the #1 thing about the EVO is what? yes..4G...thats their biggest marketing campaign...

Lets look at it this way..500 people come to your store to buy an EVO and sign a contract...you only have 10 units so you dent 490 of them..so 490 of them are not signed onto the contract..you makign them wait 2 month is not gonna turn 490 into 550 or more..no its gonna turn the 490 into 450..then 400..and etc...you won't gain customers...

The only one who favors going out of stock is the manufacturer..why? because that means they are maximizing their earnings to their potential and makes a name for the brand...but if the manufacturer had a choice to have it in stock they would...but for a carrier its a loose loose situation...

But if your saying loosing millions of dollars while your company has been in its biggest decline is their marketing strategy..sprint should just give up right now and go out of business...

Aloupha 08-24-2010 12:22 AM

Re: Any idea when Sprint will have EVO's in stock?

While the other Carriers may have other cool phones, the EVO is the only one with 4G. These other phones are in stock and are easy to get. My point is if something is hard to get, you want it more; and this is basic human nature. Since you want it so badly, you are willing to overlook things you would otherwise stand against.

However, I do agree that people can and will only wait for so long. They will eventually move on to something else. If it is indeed sprint's marketing strategy (whether it is because they really cannot respond to its demands or they are doing this intentionally), they better think of something else.

what can they do? gezzzz people. It is not sprint the company that sells the parts to HTC did not think they would need as many as they did and now a backlog waiting. It is like the stores during xmas they were bare cause in tuff times they try and make just as many as needed.

But to think sprint is holding them is about stupid.

Please! The first phone on the 4G network with 8.0 Mega-pixel camera (not counting the other features) and the "the company that sells the parts to HTC" did not anticipate people would jump at this phone?

yankees45us 08-24-2010 01:04 AM

If anyone is thinking if getting the evo I recommend waiting till the epic comes out. I love my evo and the features but epic is suppose to have a better battery life and slightly faster processor even though their both 1ghz. Plus some of you may prefer the physical keyboard better. I myself like htc sense better than the samsung version but that's a matter of preference. I may give the epic a chance after I test it out. For those who have a renewal coming up I would wait. I would even wait till november when the new windows phone will be released. It should be an interesting year. If you can't wait then get a hero on ebay to get you by and save your renewal discount.

To HTC's defense..it is for sprint..they never actually thought something from sprint will actually sell..considering Sprint's history..

But I think what the cause of the delay was the early hardware issues with the EVOs which kinda forced them to restock their entire inventory and fall behind

I am not searching yahoo but last week i read a article on yahoo finance that chip makers were the reasonshortage of the droid and evo. They claim they did not make enough so HTC was waiting on them. Now they are not going to post a AP news add about it to lie.

Search goggle it the story is there but this is the reason of short supply weather you believe it or not.

Friends bought 2 EVO from Sam's Club this Sunday. Just walked in, got a family plan with 5 phones total. They were not on a waiting list, just walk ins.. But they did mention there were other people on waiting lists they were calling in, so perhaps they got lucky and stock had just been replenished..

They also had them a Radio Shack and White version at Best Buys in the same area.

I got mine by calling a sprint store that told me they had some in store and they put my name on a list. I walked to the store about 10 minutes later and they already ran out. Had I waited ten more minutes to call I would not have had mine.
