Re: Anyone actually get the EVO on a free and clear plan?
As far as I know, the EVO is only compatible with Everything or Everything Data plans... You can't use the EVO on a F&C plan even w/ a data package. Since the F&C plans don't even exist anymore I think Sprint will try to switch you over to one of the newer plan types if you try and make any changes to your account, even swap phones. (That happened to me shortly after they phased out the F&C plans, I already had the top tier data package and just wanted to up my text message limit and they said they would have to change my plan in order to do that so I switched to the Everything Data Family 1500).
If I remember correctly, depending on what you have currently, the price of the Everything Data 450 is about the same as the old F&C 500 plus the top tier data package, but I don't remember how much the old F&C plans were... Personally, I think you get quite a bit more for your money with the Everything Data plans... but that's just my opinion...

Re: Anyone actually get the EVO on a free and clear plan?
Thanks. Maybe I'll just switch to Verizon. I currently get 1250 minutes per month and I have to be very careful not to go over. I get unlimited text and data and 7PM nights and weekends for about $50. I could probably save some money on mobile to mobile by going to Verizon since everyone I know is either on Verizon or ATT. Rumor has it that the iphone will be available on Verizon if February and I've used the iphone 4 and it is pretty dang nice and much slimmer than the EVO although it has a smaller screen. I also would have a hard time dealing with the crappy battery life on the EVO my clients who have it are not happy about having it plugged in most of the day just to make it home and plug it in again. I got the HTC diamond and returned it for the same reason.
I would have liked the imagio about a year ago which sprint doesn't carry and I have a feeling Verizon will have a better selection of WP7 phones. I don't really care about 4G so that wouldn't really effect my decision - particularly since 4G isn't available any place I visit, work or live and probably won't be in the near future. Wirelessly posted (TP2 Biznitch: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)
Do you even want a evo? All i see is you bashing sprint and talking about the iphone. Sprints plans are still lower than verizon and att's plans. Get the damn 25% timewarner discount that's on slickdeals if your worried about price.

This argument NEVER makes any sense to me. You're worried about beign able to get a phone on a plan at a low price.. dont want to change to another plan BUT say youll switch to a carrier that the lowest plan they offer for smart phones is going to be higher than EITHER of the options youd pay now????? Do people even think these days?

Re: Anyone actually get the EVO on a free and clear plan?
Dulanic - thanks - but eprp plan won't be a great deal for me - I currently pay $50 per month that covers all of my needs. I'd have to pay $100 for the only eprp plan that would cover my needs (not sure if I'd have to pay an additional $10 on top of that too. So I'd be paying $600 more per year plus $200 just to get a current phone.
fr0st - no, I'm not enamored with the EVO but most of Sprint's phones are really obsolete and I'm guessing Sprint's trend of getting people off the better plans will continue if you want a modern phone. brownhornet - if I'm going to have to switch to an expensive plan just to get a modern phone - why not go to a better carrier that has phones I'd rather have?
