or if you just want free wifi, the easiest way is here if you did not do the lastest OTA update: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=124097
or you can root using the 'simple 4 click method' and use the wifi tether app from the above link

You could try EasyTether if you don't mind being USB attached. Lite is free version that doesn't work for secure sites - can't say how well the paid version is since I'm still on the free one, but it works for me so far.

If you don't mind hooking your Evo through a USB cable, you can go with the EasyTether, or I've used PDANet with success. But for wifi hot-spot ability, you either need to pony up the $30/mo, or root, and have WiFi Tether for free.

Re: how to share internet to my laptop with EVO 4G
i use the paid version of pda.net. it works better than winmo internet sharing, never looses connection. i dont mind using a cord, keeps my battery up. the only drawback i see is that you need to install the software on each computer you use, so if you do not have an isp in the first place, you cannot setup the program. i have had problems with xp letting me into the mem card on the evo, so i keep both the 32 and 64 bit desktop installers right on my flash drive just in case i need internet on a different pc
