Evo Never Shows 1x Data?

Ive had my Evo since release date (june 4) Love this phone and have rooted it and am running OMJ v1.6 rom. Ive noticed though that it never shows me 1x data. Now I find it hard to believe that I am always in 3g areas especially since I bought the new phone. SO today I had to make an 8 hour trip to LA and I know I only have 1x data with my TP2 in several long stretches along interstate 5. SO I guess my question is has anybody else noticed that you are now magically never in a 1x area even though your "3g" speed is about as fast as 1x. And ive also noticed when im roaming now it shows me the roaming symbol and still says 3g next to it. Last time I checked I never used to roam in 3g it would be 1x only? Has anybody noticed this? I do not believe that we can roam on Verizons network at 3g speed but perhaps im wrong.

I look forward to hearing others experiences on this.

Ditto same here, it ALWAYS says 3g and never 1x. I did a speed test and fot 1x speeds

I am on Fresh ROM and I see the 1X signal every now and then.

Same here... i sometimes get 40k down on the evo and it says 3G... haha 3G my ass lol

LOL thank gawd im not the only one, Kinda of annoying but whatever I can live with it. would be nice to know though.

I've wondered about this since i got my phone. I suppose the 3G lighting up or going dark is supposed to be an indicator maybe. I live in an area where I'm in an out of roam every few minutes at times.

I'm too lazy to read the manual and need big flashing signs to help me !

If the 3G symbol is not lit up then u r not in a 3G area that's how you can tell. I would think they just figured its unnecessary to change the symbol to display 1x since if you don't have 3G then its pretty clear that it is 1x so no need to state the obvious. In any case that's how you can tell

no the lighting up is u have an active or a standby data connection

If i recall the manual states that if the 3G is not lit you are in 1x. The arrows is what indicates if you're on idle or actively using data regardless if its 3G or 1x (3G not lit).

I have seen 1x on my phone once while in an area of town that has bad cell reception. It stayed on 1x for roughly half the time.
