confused! task killer or not ?! my evo had 20 apps running!

I keep hearing that task killers are not needed on the evo but my battery life was terrible.14 hrs awake and 2.5 hrs up and I was down to 15 percent. what gives? Is a task killer really that bad? Cause I'm beginning to think its a necessary item. If not how can I grantee that i am closing apps when I am done with them ? Thanks for your help!

just because it says running does not mean that the program is actually running....

Re: confused! task killer or not ?! my evo had 20 apps running!

I am a advanced user and always always use a TASK killer. Don't kill something stupid and you will not have a problem. I quit using one for about 3 hours and my phones started to ccccrrrrraaaaaawwwwwllllll not fun. I also use Start up auditor and prevent alot of crap from ever opening.

Also on the EVO a program very well can be running. It is true some programs go into a mode where they do not use the CPU or MUCH (still some) memory but that is only if the app was designed well. Many apps are not designed well and will eat memory cpu and your battery.

In the end it's up to each person to use a task killer or not. Many many people use them and have not had any problems. Some have used them and reported it was the reason for all evil on their android device.

... those apps arnt running there sitting in memory cache not being used. your phone will keep the memory it needs to run open and it will cache other apps you use alot in the cache so it doesnt have to start it up all the way from scratch

Does anyone else use "Start up auditor" and does it work well to stop sprint apps, etc?

Re: confused! task killer or not ?! my evo had 20 apps running!

I just posted this in the other thread about using a task killer. Its a long read but very detailed. It is taken directly from the android devs website.

http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-b...-with-android/

from the article:
“Buffers and cache in RAM being cleared is silly. Imagine a professor, who rather than writing all the way across the chalkboard, finishes a sentence and immediately erases and starts writing in the upper left corner AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN OR imagine you like a song. You record it to the beginning of a cassette tape. When you want a new song, do you re-record over the first song or record after it?”

As was mentioned earlier, task killers are prolly not needed if the apps are written well. But as most of us know...most apps are not written well and they do not go into sleep mode and as it has been proven in the battery threads, a non-sleeping app can keep you phone "awake" and therefor eat up your battery.

Use a task killer. Your better off.

Re: confused! task killer or not ?! my evo had 20 apps running!

IMO its all about what makes you happy. I, like many, came from windows mobile. So using a Task killer just seems natural. As long as you're not closing anything critical, I dont see the harm.
