for those returning the Evo to RS and pre-ordered

As some of you know, I pre-ordered TWO Evo's from RS. That meant we did 2 x $50 gift cards. both my wife and I loved the Evo's but I got NO signal at work and being I work 12 hrs a day, I really need it to work for me while i am at work.

So being we are within our 30 days I took them back to RS to cancel and while they would give back to money I paid on the balance of the phones after the deposit, the deposits that was changed to gift cards they would only give back as GC's.

So I was a little PO'ed about this and the store Mngr said that was thier policy. i called a Corp office for RS and was told the same thing but was given the name and number to a Dist Mngr.

He understood and said to go ahead and let them put it back on a GC, then buy something with the GC and then return it and he would authorize the return to be cash back.

I just left from RS with all my funds in CASH.

So if anyone else is going through this, thats how i got around it. Hope this helps someone else.

Now off to the DX if i can get my hands on one. If not then I will wait until Nov to see what VZW will release.

i can assure you this wont work at every store and with every district manager. dont get your hopes up, if it worked for you congrats lol. just saying

Yeah they said the deposit is non refundable when you buy that gift card to preorder, they probably just didn't want to deal with an unhappy camper.

Correct.............Best Buy said the exact same thing......plus when I reserved it they gave me a promo paper and the fine print read the same thing!

yeah I know but I was refusing to have to deal with $100 on a GC at a high priced store where I never shop for anything more than occasional heat shrink and electrical components.

I agree they didnt want an upset customer and thats cool also. But maybe if someone else is in the situation and they press hard enough then they could do it too.

I might have been ok if I had ordered ONE Evo and only had ONE $50 GC but not $100. That was just TOO much money for me to lose.

But I do chalk this up as a lesson learned. I promise to do no more business with RS than I normally do, which is very little.

Nothing wrong with them or their store, they are just priced too high for the things i would normally buy.

Nah! I think he just wants to get the droid x.. u might as well not gotten ur money back.. because verizon is going to take away anyways.. lol give me a break a super phone with a huge bump in the back plus no frontfacing camera is sooooo 1st quater of 2010

These gift card shenanigans are the reason I will likely never pre-order any phone from Radio Shack again. That's a shady business practice IMO. They give you no choice but to buy a GC to order the phone. I totally understand buying a gift card in any other scenario is not refundable but this is just shady.

I agree, it is pretty shady and if they didn't offer the rebate upfront, I don't think there would ever be a reason to order from them. Guess it's a trade off decision you need to make.
