i'm not the only person that has had this issue. the other people seem to find that it is completely random on which computers do and don't work. maybe it has something to do with BIOS/motherboard or USB controller settings or voltages..

i don't know, i am completely stumped

as a sorta win... i was able to get it to stay connected long enough to my laptop to root the phone! but it still has the issue after root. i just have to keep unplugging and replugging it in and every so often it works for a while

the weirdest part is when i plug in to my wall charger it charges just fine and doesn't have a problem.

If it charges fine from the wall, are you sure your USB is trickling enough power to the device?

Re: Will not stay connected via USB

Uninstalled all of the HTC Software and drivers rebooted reinstalled drivers. That seemed to have corrected the problem. I'm using windows 7 x64 HTC Sync, version: 2.0.40.

Re: Will not stay connected via USB

I can verify this! I went looking for another sync/charger cable and ended up at a Sprint store. No sync cables, but I did pick up a travel charger that had connections that appeared to be the same as the home charger cable. I started this search because the car charger would not stay in the port. Anyway, I got home and found that the cable charged but did not sync. All cables are not the same. Also pay attention to the tabs on the male end - if they are not the appropriate height, then the cable will not stay connected. This particular cable and the way it is built requires little movement to work.

I saw this post a few weeks (months?) ago announcing a new type of cable that "looks" like a sync/charge cable but you can flip a switch on it and it will only act as a data cable or vice-versa only act as a charging cable.

Have you tried plugging it in to another PC? You sure the USB ports on the original PC aren't at fault?

Re: Will not stay connected via USB

i'm starting to suspect a bad pin that could be only effecting the data portion of the USB port on the phone and the charge pins are probably ok which is why the wall charger works

Re: Will not stay connected via USB

Linksys Wireless N Network USB - unplug and the EVo connects and stays connected....I have 12 USB ports with stuff...as soon as the Linksys is plugged back in - instant EVo disconnect every 2 secs.
