The included Sprint HotSpot app will not work properly without the additional add-on. The Airave serves a different function as it creates a signal similar to a CDMA tower to boost signal. The Wifi hotspot feature is for internet sharing to other Wifi devices.

It is half the cost of buying an Overdrive $30 vs. $60

I can confirm that using wifi tether from google (not the included sprint hotspot app) works as a router allowing multiple devices to connect to the internet and to communicate with each other on the network.

Re: evo router

I can confirm that the free software works just fine on the Netflix Roku box, and on 3G just like the HotSpot, and for me, with no glitches or spooling issues. This was a biggie for me, as the cable internet (and cable in general) here often goes down. Now we can watch movies just like with the HotSpot. It had an issue when setting up with the Mac address, but the software figured it out with the Roku box, and all I had to do was hit "Apply" or something like that, and it worked. You also have to uncheck a box having to do with "wake" or something like that, which keeps the wifi alive when the phone goes to sleep. Very simple, all in all.
