Im going to call bs on this or there is more to the story than you are telling. The market place is controlled by and secured by google and google only. Google Im sure does know what apps you download, but I cant see how Sprint would have a database showing any such thing. Sounds like someone trying to scare people if you ask me...

Yes things are recorded but I dont think ordinary cs reps or even as reps can or should be able to access it. You should deffinetly call back and find out what happen and if they can access that info whenever they want.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

So my day didn't start out quite like I had hoped for but I did finally make it to my Sprint store today.

My guy told me that he knows for a fact that Google has stats on everything that we download, free or otherwise, from the Market. Well yeah, no doubt. He also said that Sprint employees, from CSR to account manager to store manager and so on, absolutely cannot access that information. He told me that Google refused to do so when Sprint requested (read into that: Sprint WANTS to spy on us) annd cited that it would be a breach of the end user's (our) privacy.

I trust this guy; I met him about a year ago and talk with him fairly often. I don't see why he would lie to me and believe what he said. YMMV...

Thanks for the input RF, i appreciate you looking into it. i guess ill just have to wonder why the rep said that.

As far as the newjack 2 posts up calling BS stating my intention is to scare people well lets just say Ive had over 2 years here to do that WHY THE HELL WOULD I WAIT TIL NOW? think before you comment my new friend. EDIT:if you checked all my posts in this thread you will see that im new to android and i was hoping an experienced user would pop in and say, oh you just have to close this or turn off that. Far from an attempt to "scare fellow members". If i wanted to do that, i'd just post a pic of myself. My ugliness is far more scary than a sprint rep seeing what i download.

Just as RF has a "connect" at the sprint store, maybe this guy has a cousin at google. anything is possible and i know what took place. I have over 15 years in fraud investigations for a few major banks based in Delaware. I have several connections at other banks that would always give me actual customer info because they know what my intent was(to help me solve an identity theft case or otherwise) and i would do the same for them. Our personal info is exchanged in a lot more ways they we can imagine, the intent for these exchanges is not always malicious. Mods /thread if you like.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

It's mostly not true...I work for an indirect dealer and I called national sales support twice and told them this story. I asked them if they could view what programs you downloaded or anything else on an Android device and I got very similar answers. "We can't see anything unless it's a paid app that will affect your bill". Take that for what it's worth but I believe them. It would damage both companies images imensly if it got out that they had access to your private info.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

Like i said, anything is possible. With the info provided what have we learned. We learned that google can see what we download and sprint wants to see but got told no when they requested the privilege. So if sprint is not allowed to access that info as stated in a previous post they would be in serious trouble if it ever got out that they can. I don't know, all i can do is tell people what was said during my conversation.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

Was it a paid taskiller app? I completely believe you and thats why I called them but there must have been a different explaination or it was a lucky guess. It really is kind of scary to think of though. I'm far from the "someones watching me" paranoid type but if everything stored in your phone got in the hands of someone malicious then they can do some definite damage.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

even a paid task killer app would be charged to your google checkout and not your sprint account. if your super paranoid use market enabler to make the market think your from t mobile but as stated before the csr probably just guessed or he forgot he mentioned atk at some point.
