Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

Android was made for marketing and tracking peoples habits. So it's not unreasonable to believe they can see, or let others see, what your doing. Personally I don't care since I'm not doing anything to hide, but some may freak on the encroachment factor open source provides.

Thanks RF. Please mention that i was talking to an account services rep not a reg CSR. Also i suspect he had time to call over to "a buddy" in tech support or another dept(if that matters) in ref to a few issues I was having. The call was a bout 30-40 minutes long. However i must say regardless of what he says I know what i heard. Maybe the folks that have mentioned the "google removing an app from certain phones" resource is at work here. In order to remove an app they have to damn sure be able to see it first.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

A few things to note.

They cant remove an app from your SD card so back apps up. I get the feeling each service provider in someway has thier own market. Either \way I have no doubt sprint can see what you downloaded, you are using there internet and so forth. I highly doubt they will look at what you downloaded or if you payed for it and returned it then somehow kept it. They might look to see what you downloaded if you are having issues.

Maybe its time for an android market run by devs like a market on the net or a market app you can get from the net that devs can go and put there apps on? basicly a market run by us and not by anyone else. Hech I think that would be an easything to set up.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but if you think that what you do on your phone is not "trackable" or recorded in some way you are mistaken. Nearly everything you do which is internet based is stored and can be subpoena'd if need be by legal channels.

In my personal opinion, I belive that when you buy a phone which you later choose to root, that is your discretion as you own the hardware. However, this does not mean that what you download, view, text, call etc. is not being logged in some way.

For example, whether your phone's gps is on or not, a cellular company can triangulate your position if necessary and can do so without your approval or knowledge. This is typically only done when there are exigent or extreme circumstances such as a missing person or someone who poses a danger to the public. This is common practice in today's society. (Your evo also shows this behavior if you turn off gps yet it can still locate your position give or take a minor distance for weather clock and Google Maps)

Cell phone calls have always been logged. Just look at your detailed bill at the end of the month. It breaks down all of your texts, calls, downloads (I remember Sprint Music store had all details) etc. If someone needed to know who you texted and what was said, I am almost positive that the information will be on file in some way.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

I don't use any task manager, I think they actually made battery worst off.

Using stock and unsync everything beside gmail and the battery last a good 2 days on light uses.

Yeah we have like 5 different ways to be tracked on this phone, so if you turn off 3 services, 2 are still active, and everything we search on our phones is tracked through our Gmail accounts and the history saved under our profile.

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

Just wait till people like Joe Liberman pass Net neutrality. Just because China can turn off their internet, doesn't make it a good thing. the free transmission of information makes this country what it is. (more accurately what it WAS)

Google has always spied on you, look at the way they serve ads. Now I doubt there is someone scrutinizing your online habits, but there COULD be. Face it, you own a cell phone, yore on the grid.

On that note, WinMo app store can also remove apps remotely. ' In case they break your phone or are malicious' lol .

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?

It all definitely makes sense. i guess i just got caught off guard when the rep said that. I thought he was about to start asking "what is wireless tether"? and what is unrevoked? Now he didn't mention those 2 things probably because neither came from the market. I obviously wasn't thinking about the market vs. net downloads. I immediately thought he could see everything. Also, why give this ability to all reps? Tech support sure, but are all reps "peeking" at my downloads while I'm discussing my account? hmm I wonder.
