Big time noob question

Sorry, but I just need to make sure i'm headed in the right direction. Since I see sling player is coming tomorrow, i'm going to go ahead and get the EVO hopefully this weekend. Now I've been reading forums and bookmarking threads but now its soo much stuff i need to make sure i have my steps right, i'm coming from WinMo.

So what I want is a fully rooted phone, and just the stock rom, but i want to remove the bloatware from the phone. Are these the right steps?

1) purchase phone
2) install android SDK
3) use toast method to do full root and unlock nand found here:

4) now heres where it gets tricky for me...the phone should be fully rooted, can i just uninstall the software/bloatware that i dont want on the phone? or do i have to flash the stock rom before i can make changes?

5)after all of this, do I stay away from all OTAs? or can I do them with peace of mind?


thats pretty much it, i dont plan on flashing a custom rom till 2.2 drops, so my plan for the phone is pretty simple rooted stock without bloatware. thanks for any help, and hopefully this thread helps someone else as well...like i said i dont need help with the actual steps, i have bookmarks for how to do them...i just need to know i got the steps right and i'm not missing anything
