Angry EVO and Connecting to Microsoft Exchange

I have one of the 002 EVOs that I pre-ordered. So far I LOVE the phone and haven't had any issues for the most part. The one issue I'm seeing is that I cannot connect to my companies Microsoft Exchange server.

I'm able to enter my username, password, etc.. and it verifies that it's correct so I know it's connecting to the server at that point. After I click finish setup I get an error " Failed to create the account. Please try again later". This is the point where it would normally tell me I have to put in a PIN, etc.. and this worked no problem with the HERO and other Android phones.

I tried using a third-parrty product 'Touchdown' and it works perfect against the saame Exchange server so I don't think it's the server itself. Has anyone else seen this issue or heard of anyone who has?

I've tried multiple EVO units with the same results so I'm thinking it's something with the built in client. This is driving me crazy though....Help....

Re: EVO and Connecting to Microsoft Exchange

Have you tried the manual setup where you can manually enter in your server address, domain, and select security requirements (SSL for instance)?

Re: EVO and Connecting to Microsoft Exchange

I have the same issue, its because your company likely uses security features and since the Evo is running 2.1 and only offers pattern lock it won't accept the changes. I have to use Touchdown, while not perfect, does the job. WOuld rather have it in the native app since I prefer that calendar view, but it'll work. Touchdown has the security features built in, so that is why it'll work and the native app won't, when 2.2 (Froyo) is released, it will enhance the protection, including password/pin unlock and then we should be able to use it. Until then, you'll have to use Touchdown or some other mail client to get your corporate email.

Re: EVO and Connecting to Microsoft Exchange

I've checked all the settings (SSL) etc and am 100% positive everything is correct. I'm not so sure this is an issue with the version since I was able to use the 2.1 with the Hero with no issues. It promoted for a PIN and everything and the pattern stuff was exactly the same from what I know.

I've talked to a Sprint rep who was going to forward this on to the HTC rep but I'm not so sure it'll get much traction.

I'd be interested to know if there's anyone who has this working with Exchange and the native client and an Exchange security policy.

Working great for me. I just needed to make sure to make my security pin alphanumeric. If I don't the evo will go into the self reboot loop and then require a hard reset.

Re: EVO and Connecting to Microsoft Exchange

I am running exchange on the built in native app with no issues. I'm using a numeric pin and lockout so I don't have to keep entering the pin.

Your IT department can lock out android devices. You may also need a cert pushed to your EVO.

All my settings are 100& correct, but when it gets to the finish section it tells me that it failed and to try again later. Weird.

Re: EVO and Connecting to Microsoft Exchange

I had the same issue trying to get hotmail working with exchange. Install "improved email" from the market. It is free and works great.
