Youtube takes forever in HQ mode

Hey guys on my TP2 I have it automatically set to high quality. Videos looks good and load faster. But on the EVO when I switch to HQ it takes forever to load. I was waiting for a video to load in HD. I had enough time to take my TP2 out, launch Youtube and click on the same video and it played in a few seconds meanwhile the Evo was still trying to load. When it loaded it would sometime pause and buffer for a long time while on the TP2 it played without any issues. Is this cause of the youtube app or is it because the wireless connection on the EVO is not that great.

No matter where I am or what I try to view the Evo takes atleast 5x longer to load in HD vs the TP2 in high quality. Video quality on the TP2 is also better which is understandable given that its the same resolution in a smaller screen. I can live with that part of it.

Re: Youtube takes forever in HQ mode

I think the "High Quality" setting in the initial versions only enhanced pixelation/framerate. The new HQ YouTube player on the EVO actually plays HD videos whereas the other do not.

This is likely why it takes longer to load. Also, this player was designed with 4G use to optimize the experience...

Re: Youtube takes forever in HQ mode

YouTube has been extremely crappy over the last several months. On my home wireless network, I get bandwidth speeds in the 8.5 mb/s range, but if I try to watch HD videos (720p) on my computer, it takes forever to load. I think it's YouTube related, not evo related.

That makes sense. I'll try to watch that same video at the same time on my pc, TP2, and Evo.

Re: Youtube takes forever in HQ mode

Ok so I tried watching the same video and it still took a while on the Evo while it loaded fine on the PC and TP2. Tried another video and did the same thing. Pauses or buffers as well and never on the TP2.

Edit: the video finished on both PC and TP2 but still stuck on one screen on the Evo. Still buffering i guess...

Re: Youtube takes forever in HQ mode

I dont see the big deal about the HQ when its the same quality on the TP2. So I restarted the same video again (BP Spills Coffee). The entire video finished on the TP2 but still loading on the EVO.

Re: Youtube takes forever in HQ mode

Sorry to hear that but the youtube performance on my evo is almost instantaneous and it may take, like literally an extra second or two extra for the hq video to start playing.

Edit: and this is all on 3g even though I am in a 4g market.

Re: Youtube takes forever in HQ mode

I'm going to factory reset and see if that helps. I have a feeling its my bandwidth. When I open SpeedTest and change my server it picks up servers not even in my state. I assume it gets that from whatever the phone can connect to?
