Guess you are asking about video calls? If so, Fring allows it over wifi, 3g, or 4g on stock Rom........

from what i can find about skype lite is that it only works if you have a data plan and that you cant you use it over wifi
that way sprint can charge you for data used

is this correct?

That would make no sense for Sprint since if you have an EVO you have unlimited data.

As far as I know the only official Skype app out is on Verizon now, but they are going to release it for all android later this year. I don't know what the limitations of the Verizon only Skype app are though. I believe it's 3G only, but that's cuz it's Verizon not Sprint.

I have used both versions of skype, the verizon one and the lite one. Neither of them can make calls without dialing a number. It's absolutely pointless and pisses me off to no end.

You pretty much can't right now. It sucks. The iphone skype works JUST like the pc version and you don't even have to have the phone activated. This goes for several voip progs on the iphone.

Now, I have been around the block -- skype, gizmo, fring, google voice, and several other smaller ones. There is simply NO good voip program on android right now.

If you have a skype account, the best solution is to register and install fring.
Then go to advanced or something like that, maybe it's add account, and add your skype account. Now you have voip over wifi.

Downside:
Registering skype on your fring account (via android) takes a bajillion years. literally. it's a known problem on their forums.
So when you add your skype account. Walk away. Just alt tab (or whatever it is, i don't have my phoen on me) out of the program and let it update, it can take HOURS, and sometimes DAYS.

Once it's updated, pray it never unsyncs cause you have to do it again.

Want to add a contact? Tough luck.
You have to open up skype on a computer, add your contact via the computer, then resync fring.

Have a contact with multiple phone numbers on the computer? Or someone with a skype name and a phone number? Tough luck.
You will have to go into your skype account and manually separate all contacts with multiple entries.

Fring is such an absolute POS because they have absolutely no business model, no idea of how to make money or where to do with their product. They are just hoping they will get bought up buy a larger company and are therefore just trying to ride it out until they do. So don't expect much help or it to work right. However once you get everything set up, it WILL work. Just barely... for a 3 minute call.

Fring really does suck. But on the flipside its the only app that allows you to video chat with someone else who doesn't have an Evo. I use it to Skype with my brother who is deployed whenever im not at home. Quality sucks though. Hopefully Qik will update their app soon so you can video chat with Skype, or Skype releases their app with video chat. Whichever comes first.
