You pretty much can't right now. It sucks. The iphone skype works JUST like the pc version and you don't even have to have the phone activated. This goes for several voip progs on the iphone.

Now, I have been around the block -- skype, gizmo, fring, google voice, and several other smaller ones. There is simply NO good voip program on android right now.

If you have a skype account, the best solution is to register and install fring.
Then go to advanced or something like that, maybe it's add account, and add your skype account. Now you have voip over wifi.

Downside:
Registering skype on your fring account (via android) takes a bajillion years. literally. it's a known problem on their forums.
So when you add your skype account. Walk away. Just alt tab (or whatever it is, i don't have my phoen on me) out of the program and let it update, it can take HOURS, and sometimes DAYS.

Once it's updated, pray it never unsyncs cause you have to do it again.

Want to add a contact? Tough luck.
You have to open up skype on a computer, add your contact via the computer, then resync fring.

Have a contact with multiple phone numbers on the computer? Or someone with a skype name and a phone number? Tough luck.
You will have to go into your skype account and manually separate all contacts with multiple entries.

Fring is such an absolute POS because they have absolutely no business model, no idea of how to make money or where to do with their product. They are just hoping they will get bought up buy a larger company and are therefore just trying to ride it out until they do. So don't expect much help or it to work right. However once you get everything set up, it WILL work. Just barely... for a 3 minute call.
