Re: Help: Evo reboots during call if using Sprint Nav
The map shouldn't be able to update when you are on the phone. However, perhaps the map apps think the call is dropped when you switch towers, or go in or out of roaming

Re: Help: Evo reboots during call if using Sprint Nav
I have only had the phone for about 2 months and have noticed this issue twice. The EVO is amazing nonetheless.
When driving and using Google Nav the phone has reboted twice now. Once I was in a very weak signal area and it was trying to get a signal, I was trying to dial out, and Google Nav was running. The phone just restarted. A second time, I was attempting to make a call while Google Nav was running in the background and it just rebooted. This is a stock Sprint Rom, fully updated, rooted. Another semi-related issue I noticed in this same situation when running Google Nav and bluetooth. I dial a number through my car BT interface, the EVO screen goes black. The call does not go out and I see no Nav either. I then press the power button, the screen comes on and suddenly it dials the number. Ive noticed occasionally that the BT/phone/Nav doesnt transition and play well together sometimes when they are all running.

I had the exact same issue until I did this..
I'm surprise no one has mentioned clearing the GPS radio. In the dialer. ##GPSCLRX# You will need the MSL code, sprint gave it to me, I just asked. |

For the past two months, I've had my phone reset (up to 30 times in a row) after using Google Nav (or maps) for even a couple of minutes. Of course it's always when I need to find a street and it does it's crap to me, leaving my phone useless for quite a while as it restarts over and over. Sometimes taking the battery out and resetting the Davik cache will fix it, but not always. I can tell you it's not a heat issue or anything so mundane. I've reflashed and wiped so many times I can't count and it still always rebooted when using the GPS. Fortunately, I know this town pretty good. I'm using the custom OMJ rom. I just tried your trick and tested it running an errand. Surprisingly, it didn't reboot once in five miles. It would have done it within a minute prior to clearing the radio (it did earlier today and rebooted 12 times before I yanked the battery). I've documented this information and will save this info for future reference. You may have just saved me from un-rooting and returning the cursed device to Sprint.

Re: Help: Evo reboots during call if using Sprint Nav
The GPS clear DID NOT resolve this for me. I have experienced (and replicated) it since clearing the GPS.
With BT + GPS (goog nav) + Phone call + charging it will reset itself quite often. Otherwise, GPS works flawlessly. Every other aspect of multitasking works amazing too. This seems to be the magic combination that resets it. I dont know if its heat or what. I tried every known fix (clear GPS, disable any task killers, etc.). I'm concerned its an issue inherent to this device and/or android 2.2. I have seen others mention this being a known problem which is actually design flaw in EVO. For me, using all of these functions in unison is something I do daily with business errands & calls. This is probably why I notice it more than the average user. I just received a EVO with the latest hardware revision (0004) and will test. TEP took my 0003 model in. With that model, the reset is easily replicated with all three running & charging. I suspect the 0004 is the same but we'll see. The only modification I know about in 0004 are a slight change in the screen bonding & a slightly upraised power button (I believe). I never read anything else about 0004 having other improvements. Last edited by Alpine-; 04-04-2011 at 01:49 PM. |
