Question reguarding ATK

so i constantly am going in and killing tasks and i keep seeing the same tasks show up even though i am not using them. i get that some tasks are syncing or something but other i cant explain.

for example Voicemail is always in the list though i have not received a voice mail since i got the phone.

other tasks like Qik, sprint navigation, stocks, and maps continue to show up even though i am not using them... are there more settings to keep those from opening on their own?

Re: Question reguarding ATK

I suggest everyone uninstall task killers. They are not needed with the EVO, unless you have a crappy app that needs to be manually closed.

The phone does a good job of closing things down on its own that if you setup auto timeframe app kills or do them manually, your hurting permormance.

Re: Question reguarding ATK

I think the jury is still out so to speak.

Some might argue that battery life might be diminshed, others would say no.

I think it might have to do with what the app is and personally feel that there is not an issue with battery drain, but I am not an expert.

Re: Question reguarding ATK

You have to understand the system infrastructure to fully understand why you dont really need a task killer.

Those applications are not actually running. They could be PIDs (Process IDs) which are simply idle or they could be the system actually performing some background work. Either way, let the system do its work.

The apps will close on their own when the system feels it needs additional resources, it doesnt need our "help". I fully agree with toddpederson.

I have been running "oh so smoothly" without ATK or TaskPanel, etc. for almost a week now. No system slowdown's or anything... Try it out...
The only maintenance I do is check the Running Services once a day or so.

Re: Question reguarding ATK

I have never used ATK or anything like it. i had one game that refused to close on its own so i uninstalled, but other than that ive had great battery life about 7 hours with pretty consistant use 10 hours with less use. i dont ever recommend ATK because you can end up shutting something down that the system needs to run.
