ringtones not working and notification led keeps flashing....

I have root through toast's method and have installed the modified stock rom, but I had this problem even with the stock EVO. I have a few contacts with different ringtone set for each one, but when they call it always rings the stock ringtone. If I open up people and check the person that called, it still shows the assigned ringtone but it never rings when they call.
The second thing really buggin me is that I have unselected email from the notification led, but every time a new email shows up, the led starts flashing. Is this OS really still this far back?

As I said above, this was happening on stock ROM as well as after rooting phone.
