Installing folders

Hi everybody. Im new to this droid thing. Can anybody please help me out!!! Im trying to install a new clock with color but cant seem to figure out how the hell 2 install it. I know with the HTC pro 2 it was cabs n it would install quick after a soft reset. Any help will be appreciated.

you want folders or a app installed?

What format is it in? If it's in .zip format you have to flash it from recovery. Is your phone rooted?

No my phone is not rooted. Do i have to do that 1st? If so how? Sorry im new to all this im use to the HTC pro2.
