Not use area code

Is there a way to set the default area code, or is there a way to where when I call a contact without the area code it recognizes the number. I have tried turning off international dialing and that did not work.

This also happened on my TP2 and bugged me. I was hoping it would not be that way for the EVO.
Never got around to asking, I hope there is a workaround.
