Question Either I am an idiot or something is funky with the marketplace

I'm hoping I am just an idiot and the answer to this is so simple I will have to slap myself afterwards.

I have an EVO (my first android device) and I am trying to buy some apps from the marketplace... I downloaded a few free ones just fine so I know the basics work but when I try to buy a paid one it takes me to a screen to make or login to my Google account, I click on login and enter my information and then it goes to a "sync" page that shows me the last times it synced my stuff (calendar, gmail and contacts) so I click sync which just does that, syncs my data and then it goes back to the marketplace page I was on and does nothing.... clicking the buy button again just results in a complete redo of the process I outlined above... hope theres a simple answer for this

thanks

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but do you have a regular gmail account or a google apps account (google apps means your email ends in something other than @gmail.com)? I've read that there are issues with buying apps from the market if you have a google apps account as opposed to a full fledged gmail account.

Re: Either I am an idiot or something is funky with the marketplace

I was just coming back here to post an update, I do have a Google Apps account with @mydomain for my email... I read a pile of forums posts on google support about this issue going back well over a year.. very disappointing. As I am also a paid user of Google Apps I used the stupidly over complicated support process to send them a request to get off their asses and fix this.. of course they will completely ignore me and reply with something like "we are taking this issue under advisement and will address it when were good and damn ready to" which will most likely be never but on well lol....

Seems the only solution is to create another gmail account and use that for purchases which is stupid, I dont want to have that tied to another account when I use my apps account for everything else on the phone..

sorry you took that route but having a gmail account is the way to go. you don't actually have to send or receive emails. hopefully if you've purchased things on that app account you can contact google and have them transferred over. just make sure you remember your gmail login because if you don't actually use it, after you soft reset one day you might forget the logins.

Re: Either I am an idiot or something is funky with the marketplace

I use Google apps for my business, as a paid user its the only way to go for my purposes... I did get a reply back from Google support that I will include here for anyone that cares:

Hello Jesse,

Thanks for your message.

At this time, you will not be able to purchase apps from the Android Marketplace using your Google Apps email address. We are currently working on a solution to this, that will be coming out in the following weeks.

I would like to point you to our blog http://googleapps.blogspot.com to get up to date information regarding this. You can sign up for the RSS feed or email updates also if you please.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and I hope that you have a little more patience while we implement a solution in regards to this.

Sincerely,

Jim
