Ditch Sprint apps without rooting?

hello,
I finally ditched WINMO 6.5 for the EVO. But Sprint puts a ton of crap I will never use. Is there a way to delete or at least hide the dumb pre-installed apps without rooting?
I had a custom ROM on my TP, so I am somewhat familiar with the process, but id rather not modify this phone. Rooting looks a bit more complicated.
thx

Rooting with the Unrevoked method is as simple as pushing a button. But, as far as I know, you can't delete them without root access.

Re: Ditch Sprint apps without rooting?

Ya gotta root to lose the bloat.
Unrevoked is a simple process like Lounge said.
Here's another option with step-by-step instructions:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=123714

It details the root and how to flash custom.
Even if you root via Unrevoked you can still follow the steps if you ever get the itch again to go custom

Re: Ditch Sprint apps without rooting?

Does this mean that one could temorarily root with Unrevoked, remove what is not wanted, then unroot? Would the applications stay removed?

this is not true, to use custom roms the unrevoked root method will NOT work. if you want custom roms you have to use the toastch method.

I hate to pass along bad intel.
I know Unrevoked by itself is not enough.
As per that thread, the last I saw, we can root with Unrevoked OR toasts method then follow the instructions for recovery to be able to flash a custom ROM.
Is that not the case?
Please school this n00b.

Wirelessly posted (TP2 Biznitch: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

You can only flash custom time via toasts method.

if you have to run unrevoked then connect to your computer to finish off running toast method, you might as well run toast method from the beginning. but if you run unrevoked then complete the recovery method the way toast explains that will still work.

Whew! Thanks for the clarification. I agree it seems more logical to go with toast method from the start but OP was weary of the method and Unrevoked was mentioned so thats why I linked that thread.
