I might drag out the external gps antenna that came with it though to see if it helps. Anyone with airave issues call the number above to reprt it so maybe we can get this fixed. The tech on the phone couldn't help me but she said she was forwarding it to the engineers to see if they could figure it out, she also told me I was the first to call in with this problem, hell maybe I got a bad airave?
The gps antenna is there so you cannot use the airave outside of Sprints coverage area. If they didn't have that you could take your airave overseas and make calls without paying extra fees. The 911 story you were told is BS.

On your account page it will show the phone number associated with your airave. Take that phone number and enter it on a reverse lookup website and it should tell where the number is located.
Well I did that and the number is a Niles MI (my hometown) number, interesting....

Re: EVO and Airave?

Not sure if it makes a difference but if you go to your account online there used to be a place where you could change the zip code where the airave was located. If you go to my device and media on the right side it says Update my Airave. In there you can change the zip code. Not sure if it will make a difference but you can try it.

Re: EVO and Airave?

Using Airave is having nothing to do with data, It should pinpoint more accurate on GPS, try to reset your google and check use "GPS" in your google setting to see whether you pick up your current location. You also need to make sure "Quick GPS" is updated. Airave only affects voice calling.

HELP: Anyone's EVO defaulting to EVDO (and ignoring Airave) for all data services?

Whether I'm in my house, or just getting home, my EVO will pretty much always detect my Airave instantly. If I'm making and receiving calls or sending and receiving text messages, it also functions as it normally should. If I'm using service off of the Airave for all of the previous activities I mentioned, the 3G icon is dim, which is what it should be, since the Airave only provides 1xRTT data. The issue, is when I try to use a data feature.

Whenever I load Dolphin Browser HD, try to upload a pic so I can attach it to a Tweet, or do anything else on my EVO that needs a data connection, I'll instantly go from 6 bars down to 0-2, and the 3G icon will light up. This was never an issue with my TP2, because it always defaulted it's data usage to the Airave, because it provided a stronger signal. This is really frustrating, because the 0-2 bars of 3G is waaaaaaaaaaaaay slower than 1xRTT data is through the Airave.

Is anyone else experiencing this EVO - Airave issue?

I am also. When I'm using the phone the 3G symbol goes away and the full set of 6 bars comes on. Otherwise on data for any reason 3G comes on. And data is slow or non-existent.

Re: HELP: Anyone's EVO defaulting to EVDO (and ignoring Airave) for all data service

Unless you have the new Airave, and I am not even sure the new one is out, it does not do anything for data. The TP2 just always (on stock ROM) showed your Airave/1x full signal strength. If you used custom ROM's you should have seen those show only a few bars for signal signal as they displayed the 3G signal strength unless you were on a phone call, then you would see the Airave/1x signal again.

The new Airave does data as well as calls, but if you have Wifi at home already it's kind of pointless.

Re: EVO and Airave?

I'm having the same issue. My location ping-pongs from being correct to being about 30 miles away when ever I am home. I have poor signal in my house but my phone does try to connect to the external 3g signal which is when I believe I have correct location, but when it connects to the airave my location is wrong.

That's not true. This is from the Sprint website:

Quote:
23. What happens if Sprint Mobile Broadband (EVDO) is not available via the
Nationwide Sprint Network?

Your mobile device will use the AIRAVE for data services.

I have exactly the same problem. I can't use any gps based profile software at home because my location is all over the place. It's very frustrating. It's not just the Evo though, my Moment did it too.
