bloatware removal

So I found awesome instructions on how to remove the Sprint stuff i dont like.

However, being new to the android game, i have no idea where to type the commands and which programs are safe to remove.

It says to type "adb" something and then bingo. Where do i type these commands? Thanks

You need to look at the toast rooting instructions but remember everywhere it says adb you need to type adb-windows. YOu will need to download and unzip on the root of c:\ a the evo-recovery.
then you need to open a dos prompt by going to start run then type cmd in the box.
That will bring up a dos prompt.
from there cd:\evo-recovery
from there you can enter the adb commands. There is a post over at XDA that tell which ones are safe to remove.

Command line on the phone or computer? I've rooted a hero and cant say I have seen this. Or should I just wait for a ROM?

i wish it was as easy as uninstalling it using the astro file manager

i thought rooting would enable it to do so but still didnt work

maybe if astro can be set as superuser then it will be able to uninstall them?

update: i used Root explorer and deleted the apps.apk that i dont need and it need

for some reason when im done and restart the phone it instals them back again

i think you need to wait till there is a root that allows write access to /system while in android

It's because we are unable to unlock NAND at the moment, hence the need to load the custom recovery from the computer.


To the op, a good place to start is rooting your phone using toast's method which you will need anyways to remove the apps you don't want, through that you can see where to type adb commands.

i am not 100% on this, just a guess but are the .apk files for the apps you are removing located in \data\app or \system\app? If so delete the .apk files there too and then see if they reinstall.

actually the apps located in data\app is the apps u install urself and the system\apps is the one comes on the device

i have rooted the device using unrevoked and i have everything working perfectly. wifi tethering was my main reason but there is like 10 or more apps that i never use im trying to take out

footprint
friend stream
htc mobile guide
mp3 store
nascar
google maps navigator
peep
setup
sprint football
sprint tv
sprint hotspot
sprint zone
stock

i think that sums up everything i need to remove
