You need to look at the toast rooting instructions but remember everywhere it says adb you need to type adb-windows. YOu will need to download and unzip on the root of c:\ a the evo-recovery.
then you need to open a dos prompt by going to start run then type cmd in the box.
That will bring up a dos prompt.
from there cd:\evo-recovery
from there you can enter the adb commands. There is a post over at XDA that tell which ones are safe to remove.
