Free WIFI tether works !!!!now with infrastructure mode.

Ok, I am still having a problem....I h ave rooted my phone, installed the latest wifi software, both by double clicking on it and also through a terminal (insurings I was logged on as root), and I still have the following error when I start the tethering process: "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!" What gives????

Latest wifi tethering app. Rooted Evo. I have installed a few different ways. I even did an adb install, as root - remotely.

Some config file need to be checked? Some daemon need to be started?

On a side note, how can we tether via the USB connection to just our computer?

Well make sure you gave superuser permissions to the app. It will ask you twice, once on connect and once on disconnect.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't get the option to give super user permissions....so, is there a way to do that? I know, a stupid question, but having to recall my linux command prompt stuff is taxing at this stage in the game....

Same problem here. Didn't get the superuser permissions and error out "unable to tethering". I was using unrevoked but then I downgrade and root now this program doesn't work. ):

mines stuck "identifying network" wont connect at all :/

Once you root using toast method you have to go thru the second part of the setup. Most people doing the unrevoked method haven't had a problem. There is a file that is put on the phone by both methods that needs to be there the su program when you first start the program you should see a prompt that asks if you want to give permission for this to be super user you must answer yes always for this to work.

So, how can we get this file and all that? I have searched all over the internet for troubleshooting this. I never got the prompt to put the program in SU mode.

Any pointers on what to do? What file should go where?
