How do you END or CLOSE an application

I know, I know, I'm a NOOB............but still, how do you close an application or window. There isn't any end or close tab. I been using the back button and home button but when I go back to that app, it still open. Please help............

You can hit menu and look for the "exit or quit" or you can download atask manager app.I use advanced task killer.

Well half of the people have also been saying stay away from ATK, so I say do research on the benefits of using it or not using it.

Nothing is wrong with using ATK, there are certain programs that loads for no reason at all and hogs up memory. For example, it seems like all the sprint stuff loads and stays in memory and I know damn well I wont be using those programs at all. You can set ATK to close them automatically, now I don't know what other tweaks other people have been using but for me its been working perfectly so far and I have two evos(one for me and one for my girl).

Also, if you don't like ATK (I have found it to be fine though) you can from the home screen do

MENU>Settings>Applicatons>Running Services

From there you can force stop the app.
