Re: Is the EVO "Rooted" right out of the box or not????
Look at the "How to root your Evo" thread or http://unrevoked.com/ and to flash a new rom you need root access.
Rooting gives you root access which is basically full control over the phone "unlocking"

No you don't need to, and I'm not yet. There are way to many issues with the root process, and the custom ROMs are breaking 4G service and Marketplace. Wait like me and be a happy camper for the good ROMs. the phone's stock rules, hold off.

You don't NEED to, but if you want tethering, the ability to flash custom ROMs, take screen shots, etc, you will need to root.

Re: Is the EVO "Rooted" right out of the box or not????
I corrected it. I'm waiting to root until there is a working wifi tether and an easy way to remove this Sprint crap. I'm hoping they'll have something good out before I lose the free hotspot on June 20th.

Re: Is the EVO "Rooted" right out of the box or not????
As a WM 6.5.3 TP2 (ex TP2) owner, I would do the flash dance at least 4 or 5 times a month. I like having a diff look every few days. Without flashing a new ROM or ROOT, can I still make eye candy Mods and tweaks. I havent the slightest idea how to so far. Im reading post and bookmarking whatever looks good, but they suggest
Rooting, Recovery mode, ROm Manager entering commands .... is there a simple way? |
